Since this was in the 2016-2017 school year, I do not have access to student devices.

Surface Area Framing Routine

The FRAME routine was used in a special education math class. The math class is everyday for 55 minutes, and the class make up consist of 6 students: 2 females and 4 males. 1 Student with other health impairment, 3 Students with specific learning disabilities, 1 with Autism,  1 is a student with a disability, and 1 student with intellectual disability.  I use the Framing Routine with my class at the beginning of each unit . The completion of the Routine takes between 30 minutes to 1 hour for introduction of notes. The use of the Framing Routine can be incorporated every two weeks as new information is presented to the students per unit or while in the same unit. This is becoming a familiar and expected component to my class and the students have accepted the new way of taking down information. The students enjoy completing the FRAME because they have input into the new notes. It is also helpful as in when we review for prior knowledge, and helps make connections to previous units. The students are

Hall/Hodges Implementation Portfolio

Our second block English 8 class has 26 students, many with Individualized Education Plans. This particular group of students struggle with remaining on-task for a sustained amount of time. They are respectful when prompted, but they do require constant support. The Frame Routine has been introduced on a more frequent basis as we prepare the students for Grade 8 Writing SOL on March 13th/14th. As an estimate, we have spent several hours in class over the past few weeks discussing the FRAME Routine in more detail as a learning tool. Attached are the draft and final products.

Implementation Portfolio

Creating an implementation portfolio for a routine I have used for over a decade is difficult.  Using a FRAME is no longer something I document. It's a tool I use when I am teaching and see a need.  When I first learned this routine, I was expected to use it as much as possible, always with fidelity.  Now that the reigns aren't quite as tight, I am able to determine when to use a FRAME based on its effectiveness in relation to what I am teaching.  For example, a FRAME is my go to for teaching definitions to the types of figures of speech.  FRAMEs are also used regularly when covering the elements of a specific genre.  Basically, FRAMEs are used when covering anything students in my class must embed in their long term memory and apply when the need arises.

Below are two electronic FRAMEs my students and I co-constructed.  Many of the FRAME examples I have were created using the Promethean and have not been saved from year to year because each class co-constructs their own.  Currently, the majority of the examples I do have are on loan to another PDer, Susan Trumbo.
