What I've learned from the training.

I've learned that I need to be more alert  to the TOS and Privacy statements when deciding what apps to use with
students. I shouldn't just take for granted that everything is all good just because the app is from a particular publisher
or creator.

I've also learned where I can go to check to see if an app passes for  good Privacy ratings.

I learned that there is a trustworthy website that can help me monitor the privacy for apps, even if something isn't on the district list.

I learned a lot about student privacy data.

I actually had no idea we have a pre-approved list of websites that were okay for student access. I'll check that next time for SURE!

I learned how data mining is a thing and that we have to be careful as teachers not to put SS information out their that a third party can get to.  Just because they use a school friendly app doesn't mean it is the safest when they are at home and could possibly have ads and marketing information that they student/parents do not need.

What I learned

This training provided me more clarification on how to keep data private.  It provided me some insight on how some apps or sites will use your personal information without your knowledge.  Although, it may be mentioned on the website or app, sometimes if is in very small print or not clear to the user.  I also learned that some apps are also connected to third party vendors which will also use information such as a simple google search to advertise items on apps such as Facebook.  User Responsibility was a new term mentioned that I have never heard of before.

Student Privacy

When looking for an app to use with students, it is our responsibility to insure that our students' privacy is never violated.  If we do not use apps that have been approved ahead of time by the district, we need to take the necessary steps to read and research the sites.  It's important to read the "terms of service" carefully and request guidance from IT personnel if unsure of the safety of the app.

I learned a lot about how to protect my students and the different laws that are in place for safety reasons.

I learned about the many ways that I can look out for my students privacy when using apps.

I knew that it was very important to protect student's information already. I also knew that there were certain laws that we as teachers had to follow to ensure this.  I didn't realize how careful we had to be with using popular apps such as remind to make sure students have their private information protected from third parties. I learned about all the provisions that came along with privacy using technology. I will make sure that I follow proper precautions to ensure that my students are always safe.

Formal Definitions

I learned the formal definitions used for data privacy and how to go about checking for new or alternate websites/apps to use which will be very helpful in the upcoming school year.
