Video learning about confidentiality

The video was a reaffirmation of what we have always put into practice regarding student confidentiality. Confidentiality, whether in paper or online, is sacred to protecting our students and ensuring our professional obligations as educators.

What I learned

I enjoyed the specific scenarios from the teachers at the end. I think it's important to acknowledge the terms of service, which is something I often check off without reading the words over. It's also crucial to know the chain of command when an issue comes up. Who should I talk to and what should I do?

Summary

I knew about FERPA, but I did not know about the other regulatory laws associated with student privacy. Thinking about long term implications is important. Data mining, marketing, etc are concerns to keep in the fore front of my thinking at all times when working digitally with my students.

Good Reminder

Overall this was general information that we know but it went further into detail.  A very good reminder to research what the students are using and make sure it has all the safety requirements

I learned a lot!

This training reminded me to make sure that every app my students use needs to be checked. The world of technology can be a scary place, but taking the time to check apps can prevent problems from happening. I think that keeping our students safe online is important and that definitely includes their data.

Using apps for students

In this particular training I learned that you can verify different apps for students to make sure that they are safe. In by doing this you can make sure that the apps for not selling students information which would not be protecting students privacy. This reaffirms that we as teachers should always make sure the sites and or apps we are using for our students are safe.
