What I learned from this training

I learned how to easily lookup an app to see if it is safe to use with my students using the common sense education website. I now know that there is a lot to consider when it come to remote learning and student data privacy.

I learned a lot of new things about online privacy that I did not know before.

Reflection answer

I learned that third-party collection of student info is more prevalent than I might have thought, and that I need to be vigilant when vetting potential apps.

Approved app

You can look up how safe an app is to use and why it got that rating.

What I learned...

There wasn't much "new information" provided in the training that I didn't already know.  I struggled with the quiz because I find myself leaning towards even stricter guidelines and boundaries than the site encouraged.  I did appreciate the resource that broke down the legal statements into categories to be able to determine whether an app/site is safe or not.

My thoughts

The course was a good review of info I already knew.  It reminded me that there are more factors to consider when looking for tech for students.  I liked the Common Sense reviews of products.

I learned about the importance of the User agreements when loading apps. I found this beneficial both school and home.

I knew that User agreements come with my apps but I did not know of the importance in protecting my students and my personal data.

monitoring apps

I learned that there are many app that can be harmful to students and their personal information.  I also learned that even apps that have been approved by the district will still need to be monitored.

After taking the quiz, I feel like one of the most important people to always be in contact with is the IT person on our campus!

I learned a wealth of information over Student's Privacy and the importance of reviewing terms of services.

This was a great way to review and internalize how important and sensitive student's data privacy is. Especially with all the new apps and online services that we can easily misuse, it's of great importance to be well prepared in order to protect our students.

I was able to see that just because an app has district approval it is not always safe for all students to use.

I have a deeper understanding of the importance of keeping students data private and secure.

I learned the acronyms that are used when discussing students privacy. I now have a better understanding of the laws that govern how we use Apps and how we are held legally responsible for the use of those Apps in our classrooms.

I had a very general understanding of what student data is and how to protect the sharing of the data. I know now that student data goes far beyond sharing their names and grades. I understand that it is vital that a student's data is never compromised.
