The Importance of Student Privacy

I learned the importance of privacy and how to be more cautious with student information. Even if I think an application or website would be useful, I still need to check to see if it is secure.

Loads of great information...

I learned the do's and don't's regarding online apps with our students.  I never assumed I would ask any student to use an app that wasn't used by the school, but some may innocently find a cool app and want to use it with their students.  Now, I know to just check with my IT people before introducing any apps to my students.

Great information!! Very informative!

This was a great training. I never would have thought about the Remind App, having to use it with caution. It is such a great app that I have used and still use.

There were several things in the presentation that I already knew

There were several things in the presentation I already knew and what I didn't seemed like common sense. I know not to share out grades or student work, I'm always very careful of that. Definitely know to keep medical records confidential, that's pretty much universally true. This was a great refresher, however, considering so much of my work is going to be done online for the first part of this year.

Some new information gained.

I already knew that educational and health data was considered private and could not be shared.  However, I learned that apps collecting data for advertising purposes was also considered a violation of privacy.

Student privacy is a law, we have to make sure we are aware of what our students are using and are exposed too.

I learned that student safety is my responsibility.

I learned that I need to check with technology to know what is best for my student's online applications.

I learned that there was a website that can quickly show if an app is private or not.

What did I learn

I learned that privacy can look different online than in person. You also have to be aware of the different types of websites and accounts you have your students use. This is important so that you do not share students information on the internet.
