Student Data Privacy

This course was a refresher on certain areas we have previously covered and I enjoyed the fact that it was a "new" platform therefor it felt like I was learning new material and not just re-listening to old information.

I think the area that interested me the most was learning about apps and how we must go through a process to insure we are keeping information safe and not just relying on the app because it looks/is "educational".

Importance of privacy for students.Steps of approval and verification.

I learned that there are apps that are approved and others that are not, even though all of them might be able to be used in education.

I also learned that there are apps that may be very useful as a teacher, but that a teacher also has to look out for data mining of the students, along with other ways that apps collect data from its users unwittingly.

Privacy Training

What I learned about the privacy training course was the apps having a review and rating system to allow users to understand their security, privacy and over all functions that have a pass or fail rating based on those categories on how they are used within the app. I knew about the laws FERPA and COPPA, being a special education teacher we have to keep students record confidential and lock/keep from anyone who doesn't have an educational need or purpose to have their information.

I learned if I want my students to use an educational app that it has to be approved. I was already aware of FERPA.

Eye opener

I never knew that there was so much information regarding online apps as to how it relates to FERPA laws.  After taking this course, I will definitely pay closer attention to the type of information that is shared and their Terms of Service.

I learned more about understanding the importance of knowing the privacy policy for the educational apps that we use with students.

I learned about laws I didn't know existed.

We always discuss FERPA, but I had no idea that so many rules covered privacy and data.

I learned that I should ALWAYS check to make sure apps are approved by the school before I use them in my class.
