What did you learn? What reaffirmed what you already knew about student data privacy?

All posted evidence

I learned that student privacy goes beyond in-person interactions.

We have to maintain student privacy online, in apps., and in-person.  Student information is at risk in a different way when they use apps or go online.  Teachers are responsible for making sure students are safe within any digital platform they encourage students to use.

I learned that it is important to investigate security for apps. that students have access to, or use in class.

After teaching for 10 years the most important thing I've learned is to remain flexible.  After last year's events that is more relevant than ever.  Digital student privacy and protection is extremely important.  We can't simply think about protecting students through our interactions with them and others, but how we can protect them from outsiders and companies who might try to breach their privacy online.

My thoughts

Throughout this course, I have reaffirmed that it is extremely important to maintain student privacy.  Although there are district approved apps, there is still a chance for privacy issues.  As a teacher, we should always be alert and pay attention when it comes to students privacy.

Good refresher and practical application provided.

This was a great in depth review of privacy laws governing school districts. I liked the break down of the 3 major federal laws and the state by state supporting laws. The scenarios were great practical application of the laws to situations.

I learned that although a website may appear to be safe it may share personal student information.

I did know that it is important to not use any site that would be able to access personal information about our students. I had not thought about sites that may have round about ways of accessing this information and target students and their families for advertisement purposes.

It is important to check with your district when adding any new programs to your lessons and only use district approved sites.

Learned and affirmed

It was affirmed that it is one of mine and my districts duty to keep students information safe, secure, and restricted. I learned how to do that online with apps and what to do if I am unsure of its privacy.

Student data and data while using apps

This training was so informative about student data. I learned what to do when there is uncertainty about student data and apps that students are using for learning.

My Students Safety matters!

I learned so much about the privacy of our students.  I learned the importance of making sure to check with the IT person and or the district before using a certain app.  I can now use common space to look to see if an app is is taking the privacy of the students seriously.

Privacy for Students is not only law, but important

There are various laws such as FERPA, COPPA, and PPRA that mandate we keep certain student information private. It's also just in the best interest of the student as well as the parents/guardians.
