One Take Away

ELs need frequent opportunities to use language to observe content knowledge in all subjects. I teach math, science, and social studies and sometimes forget that helping my ELs still apply to me, since I ask my student to listen, turn and talk (speak) and write.

My biggest take away was the expected teacher behaviors.

One big takeaway from the video

One big takeaway from the video would that ELPS are not separate from the TEKS they are required to be taught in all subject foundation subject areas.

Including ELPS

The item that is a big take away is that there should always be an inclusion for ELPS, in the lesson and classroom. Making sure that it is second nature and becomes familiar to those who need it.

It was helpful to be reminded that a part of caring about our students is to know the language that they communicate most at home.

My Takeaway

My biggest takeaway was learning about the teacher behaviors in the guide.

I learned that the Ellevation program uses English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) to identify English Learners (ELs).

I learned that the Ellevation program uses English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) to help teachers identify English Learners (ELs) at all grades levels through all content area instructions. The acquisition of English as a second language through ELPS, is designed for teachers to provide linguistic instructions through performance-based activities within lesson planning.

win-win for all

I love the fact that ELPS language activities benefit all learners.

ELPS

Not every student with a language other than English will be identified as an EL.Speaking, reading, writing, and listening are critical.

Evidence is required for every subject area.

What I learned

ELPs are integrated with the TEKs. They are a part of every content area if you have at least one EL in the classroom.

My biggest take away....

was that the older the child gets the more extensive their need for intervention becomes.
