ELPS strategies for all!!

The strategies we use for ELLs are actually very beneficial to all students, especially in a special education setting like the one I work in.

My Takeaway

My biggest takeaway from the video was about the teacher suggested behavior.I like how it tell us how to talk to our EL student at the different levels and how to help them be more successful while do a small group or giving instructions to them.

One thing that I learned from the video is that all teachers can help ELs succeed in each of the domains, not just content area teachers.

One thing that I learned from the video is that all  teachers can help ELs succeed in each of the domains, not just content area teachers. Being a specials teacher, I can also positively impact the learning of all my students by applying the ELPS in my everyday instruction.

What was something you learned or what was your biggest takeaway from the ELPS video

Something that I learned about ELLs in this presentation is that not every student who has another language on their english survey is an EL. It depends on their proficiency. My biggest take away was that all teachers, no matter the subject they teach can provide opportunities to EL students to practice new vocabulary and language structures. The still need to develop their communication.

ELPS has as great deal of information that is very useful in assisting teachers with their ESL learners.

One piece of information that was new to me is that not every student that has a second language will be identified as an English learner.

The Linguistic Instructional Alignment Guide is a great tool to assist teachers in making sure that their lesson design is within the guidelines of ELPs.

ELPS Built into ELAR TEKS

We, as ELAR teachers, are not the sole educators responsible for reaching our ESL and ELL student's linguistic abilities. I am very grateful for the new TEKS that are written with the ELPS intertwined with our content.

What I learned...

It's interesting that not every student that answers a different language that English on the survey is automatically classified as an EL. I suppose that would apply to someone who is truly multilingual.

Proficiency levels are not age specific. Suggested teacher behavior can help the teacher support students in all areas of proficiency.
