Safe, Secure, and Restricted

I knew about the FERPA law and learned about COPPA and PPRA as well. I learned the difference between safe, secure, and restricted. I think I mostly focus on the safety aspect, but know will focus more on the secure and restricted aspect as well.

I don't know that I learned anything new in this training.

I don't know that I learned anything new in this training. It was a good refresher of what I know about student privacy. I don't read the privacy policies of the apps I download. I figure if I'm using it then I have to agree. It's kind of a Catch-22, I, as a consumer, don't have much in the way of recourse if I find that my rights are being violated by an app that is required. I think of the things that work or others want to use and if I want to be a part of that organization or group then I have to accept the terms of the apps privacy policy. I think we can do a lot to protect our students, but I don't really think that we can do it all. The biggest thing in this course is just really following the guidance of those individuals higher up the food chain and then making sure that I'm more in control of what and how students use the applications in a classroom.

I learned an incredible amount of information. I learned about the importance of vetted apps and keeping students and parents safe.

Let's be sure to keep our student's info private.

What I learned was to make sure when looking at apps to verify that their privacy policy will indeed keep the information private. I would have assumed it would because it is a child's information. This is all so important and even more relevant with COVID-19 virtual learning.

I learned about the use and approval of different apps. I already knew about sharing of privacy information.

With only 4 IPADS in my classroom I did not have the opportunity to use them as much as I wanted therefore didn't look into using alot of the apps. I have learned that the school has to approve any apps that I would like to use in the classroom.

I though that this was really interesting! This taught me how to look at different websites and see how they use mine and my students information. I also like how it brings up using technology at home and the proper way to use it while still protecting students privacy. I also look that I an go to the common sense privacy page and see what they say about the website! I had no idea that there was a website like this and it will make it nice when trying to consider which websites to use with my students!

Data collection through apps

The list of apps with ratings will be helpful when planning future lessons. It helps that IT installs all of our apps, so we know they are already district approved. I had never thought about the data that can be collected through apps on our students. It is important to only use apps that our district approves.

Student Data Privacy

I really enjoyed learning about how I can easily assess a website to ensure that it is safe and will protect student data based on FERPA and other laws. I was not as familiar with COPPA and PPRA as I was with FERPA so knowing that these other laws will dictate how I review online applications for students is a huge help!

Data privacy

I learned that all apps have various ways that student data is collected and it is imperative that we go through our district IT department to download apps.

WHAT I LEARNED:

I was excited to see their list of apps and ratings.  I am also thankful that we have to go through the technology department to have the apps on our ipads. I also am aware now of the COPPA act.  The definitions and explanations of the different parts of privacy were also helpful and enlightening.

What I learned

I learned that keeping students' information safe it what is needed as a teacher, school, and district.  We must do our research in applications we use and make sure they protect our students and their data.

How important it is to check policies on student learning apps.

It reaffirmed how important it is to check district approved sites and I learned more specifics on the various privacy policies that apps should have. I will definitely be using the common sense privacy program search tool to verify and double check current and future student learning apps.
