Student Data Privacy

This module reaffirmed how important it is to keep student grades between you as the teacher and the students. That is really important in art because of the nature of displaying artwork. I learned a lot when it comes to understanding terms of service in relation to how apps and websites need to be vetted. Becoming more award of that information will help guide what I will be using with students.

That there are many technicalities that go into student data privacy and privacy in general. The Ferpa reaffirmed what I already knew.

Student Data Privacy

I learned about the detail that actually goes into selecting the right online tool/app for student use/communication.  I am completely aware of the importance of student privacy.

Feedback with Students

I learned that it is critical to restrict the student's grades to be kept between only the teacher and the student when it comes to feedback.

I learned more about vetting apps

I learned more about vetting apps and the proper channels when in situations that violate student privacy. It was nice to see my summary of student privacy was close to the actual definition.

Reading the Fine Print

Much of the material was review, but reading the fine print for the various programs was something I had not spent much time considering.  This was the most eye-opening thing for me.  In the context of technology and information privacy today, this is a big consideration.

Student privacy

I did not think about how student data privacy leak could lead to trouble not just now, but llater in life as well. I was reminded about predators and how there are consequences from not verifying security of a page or app.

This training gave me the tools needed to analyze apps for student engagement. Previously, I did not have a deep understanding of privacy, safety, and security. In the future, I'll be better equipped to analyze apps when making choices about technology in my classroom.

What I learned and knew

COPPA and the term vetted. It never occurred to me that even educational apps policies can be unsafe. The training gave awesome resources on how on to better protect my students. I knew about FEPRA and the importance of it.

I learned that you need to pay close attention TOS

Teachers and staff need to pay close attention to the terms of service before allowing students access to an app. It is best to speak to an IT person first and get approval before jumping into an app.
