Reflection

This topic in my future classroom is very important. When I think about my future classroom I think about all the different ways I could make every student feel loved, safe, and especially equally educated. This topic is so important for the students education it makes the students analyze the difference between diversity, race, gender, culture, etc. Every person should feel proud of who they are and their history background. Growing up, my school was very stereotypical with teachers labeling students by their race. I understand how easy it is to be bias and stereotypical especially when someone becomes tired and stressed within a classroom. However, as teachers and adults we should never fall short to think about biases and behaviors. If the students see the teacher implicating such actions and behaviors they are going to think they can do such things too since we are doing it. As future educators we need to throw away those biases and stereotypes we all have encountered because these students start becoming prejudice and discriminatory at young ages and it will only keep getting worse as they grow up. I will teach my students that when they are in the classroom we will all treat each other with respect because in the end everyone is the same no matter what language they speak, where they come from, or what gender they are. Every student is a student and I will make sure that everything done in the class is treated fairly and equally.

This will be extremely helpful for my future as a teacher. I will be able to use this to find books to build up my classroom library. Also, I will be more equipt to teach my children about digital citizenship and using technology as a whole.

A Broader for of Teaching

I think this webinar really relates back to my classroom because it talked about integrating technology in with English instruction. Being able to teach two subjects at once is very important and not all schools have the funds to support technology education. Technology, art, and physical education can all easily be pushed to the side in school to focus on standardized exams. In the webinar books about on line citizenship, how to code, and when it is time to unplug make all the difference when a student can finally get there hands on a computer. This webinar got me started on making a list of technology books I plan to have and use in my classroom.  Having the skill to teach technology, even in a school that is lacking, will put me ahead of others because I can now go beyond the obvious and into a broader real of education.

Share your students' work!

The most important take-away from this seminar was to remember to share students' work. Their families really appreciate seeing it, and students feel proud and like they've created something worthwhile when their work is shared. I like Seesaw for this purpose, although there are a lot of great options depending on the nature of the work and the students' grade level.

Also, it's great to see how apps can work together -- for example, taking a picture or making a video in one app and then editing it in another. As a future teacher, I'm glad to have competency in lots of apps so that I can choose the ones that are best for what I need to accomplish in the classroom.

Reaction

This honestly was the first time I have talked and interacted with people via video on a computer. I was not sure what to expect and I wasn’t sure if I had enough experience  to get involved in dialogue with these other educators, but it was great. Everyone was open into talking about complex deep ideas. It is amazing, seeing that many educators would shy away from discussing faiths and cultures that are not common practice or socially acceptable here. I5 was refreshing and genuinely awesome to see.

Global Citizenship

When it comes to my future classroom, I loved the idea of connecting my students to the world around them. In addition to the art projects that they can use to express themselves, sharing art with students around the world can create greater unity within the classroom. Global citizenship is a responsibility that all teachers, of every grade, have to teach the children in our classrooms. They will be able to better relate to others of different cultures (which increases tolerance) and to have a better understanding of what life is like outside of their community/country. I really do hope to have this program, or a program like this, in my own classroom. I have loved the idea of connecting my classroom to students all over the world, and this is a great way to do so.

Helpful in class

This information was very helpful because it allowed me to see how as a teacher that I can be someone that inhibits change throughout the world. The Teach The World Foundation talks about how we can call to action ourselves and our students. We talked about how teaching is a never ending process and in a classroom this is something that is really important to know.

This webinar was relevant to my future classroom because it taught me how to get my students learning along with other students. The speaker gave me many different resources to use for my students to talk to and learn with other students around the world. I would use any of these resources in my classroom, but probably Belouga would be best. This way, my students make an online profile and then they are able to network with students all over the world. This is a newer application, so people may not know about it yet. I think it is a great and easy way for students to learn and collaborate with others.

Reflection

This is relevant to my future classroom because I want my students to be knowledgeable on how to interact with people from other countries/cultures. I want them to be able to get below the surface level information and see what really makes them as a person. I can use this by taking some of the tips that she has given us and putting them into place. Some good things she said is to collaborate with other classrooms about local topics and then share your findings with them. Learning about what a country is struggling with is going to be so much more impactful if it comes from the people of that country. She said that students want to hear from the people of that country much more than a scientist or "experts." Which I totally agree! That'll want the knowledge from people that are experiencing it first hand.

I actually liked seeing the conference's way of fixing someone's absence during their presentation. When the webinar was supposed to begin, they already had someone on to talk and explain what was going on and their backup plan for the presentation.
We didn't create anything for this webinar, but we did place a star on a world map to show where everyone in the chat was from. It was really neat to see stars popping up all across the map.
I enjoyed hearing about this blog challenge, and I think it could be something that every grade and subject area could find useful. It is a great way to get students involved in digital citizenship, and it goes over a lot of what we talk about in our technology class. I know many kids would like getting on and feeling like they are contributing to an important blog.

This was a really good webinar. The presentation was great and we had a great discussion afterwards. I had never really thought about how differently the same history was being told around the world. This is definitely something I could incorporate in my classroom. My students need to be able to approach any issue or topic with the ability to look at it from different perspectives.

This was my first time ever participating in an online conference. It was definitely a new and different experience. I did not know that global conferences like this are so common and easy to participate in. I learned a ton of information about global collaboration. I learned ways that I can connect globally to others. There are a lot of projects that are available for teachers to implement in their classroom that involves global collaboration amongst students. I think that this whole idea has so many benefits. I will definitely be tuning in to another one of these conferences.
