What I Learned

The iPad Moviemaking Magic workshop was probably one of the most useful workshops I have ever been to! I believe in giving my students the opportunity to show their work and knowledge creatively and in a way that allows them to have fun; I think that making videos is one of the ways that this can happen. And for myself, I learned so much from the workshop that will help me with my own projects. For example, I immediately took the video-making skills I learned and created and introduction video for my group project in Dr. Cullen’s class. Also, I used Adobe Sparks (as the main platform alongside the app-smashing that I learned about in the session) to create an original trailer for a book talk in another of my classes. Overall, I very much enjoyed and learned from my experience with Eman Beck in this workshop.

This workshop was very informative. Oliver Schinkten talked about about many different websites and apps that could be used in the classroom. My favorite was the WhiteSmoke software. I believe that is going to be a website/app I use in the future very soon. I learned how to do many things and found this workshop to be very helpful. It gave me ideas for lessons and technology in my future classroom.

I will definitely be using the resources they cited in class to take education projects global.

Reflection of Coding Webinar

I actually found this webinar to be very helpful!  I had never even heard of teaching coding to elementary students until this semester, and at first I didn't see how that was possible.  But after working with coding programs such as Swift Playground, code.org, and now Scratch Jr., I can see how it's not only possible but also very beneficial! Coding is an engaging way for students to learn and have fun with technology, and it's something that I might implement in my future classroom.

Helpful for later

This is some useful introspection information. I don't want to wait until my principal observes my classroom for evaluations to think about how I can make my classroom better. This, and other workshops, give some relevant and easy tips and techniques for self-assessment to make sure I'm doing my job.

The webinar about coding was so meaningful for me, as an international student I had had just few to non experience on coding. so the very same day that Dr. Cullen started introducing coding in class, where I had my first approach with Swift Playgrouds, I participated in this webinar that gave me a better idea about using coding for students. I learned how coding is a fundamental nowadays just like reading, but I also realized that feo kids have the opportunity to learn this technology as it is not taught in many schools. For me, as international student, learning to code is like learning a foreign language, so the earlier students are exposed to coding the quicker they learn how to use it. And that’s why I would use coding for my future teachIng as it allow students to create projects that do really amazing things with, it can build children’s confidence and it will support children’s learning in other areas like reading.

This is extremely relevant to my future classroom because it is designed for many levels. I would use this as a technology center as an extension for children who need something more challenging in terms of coding. I could also use this in place of a math lesson for students. It's challenging but I think that you can personalize Scratch so much that you could absolutely do this with younger children. I like that you can create an account and access what you make on Scratch from any computer. We did not create anything in this webinar so there is no evidence to post for that section.

This workshop was very insightful to the preparation and use of code.org in the classroom. Specifically, by laying out the 6 step plan, the workshop clarified a lot of concerns I had about teaching coding in the educational environment. It really opened my eyes to the different ways coding can be taught at virtually any level in the k-12 system and beyond. Furthermore, it placed a heavy influence on increasing the number of these programs in schools, which is important for developing a healthy and productive work force in the technological era.

I really enjoyed attending this webinar. In class, we have been learning all about coding and it was fun to see it take place in a classroom with younger students. I felt dumb at times because I struggled with coding and these young kids were creating really cool video stories. Although Shelly gave me ways to integrate Scratch Jr. in a special education classroom, I do not think that I would use it. If I was in a mild/moderate classroom, I would look into how to apply it. However, the students I will be working with will not be able to operate this. Overall, super cool app and Shelly provided a lot of helpful information to use the app.

Anti-bias education summary

This is a very relevant topic for my future classroom. I want my students to be able to learn about one another in a way that teaches them how to be accepting of each other's differences. It is important to celebrate the differences between people and have a desire to learn about other cultures. I will use the activities that I learne din this webinar in order to create a safe classroom community where my students can speak openly about their home life and how they celebrate different holidays. This was a very helpful and interesting webinar to be a part of.

Summary

Overall the workshop was informative. I would definitely use some of the pre-made labs to use and adjust to make it more math based. It would be fun to turn the traditional math class into an exploratory class the encompasses using math but in a real life settiing. The neat part is that the labs are adaptive rather than set in stone.

This is relevant for my future classroom because I can have my students use Swift Playground on their iPad. They can code in Swift Playground and then use the robots. I could use this as a fun way to teach my students while they are doing puzzles or playing games. Although my students are learning coding they are playing games at the same time so it is fun!
