The digital badge process is a unique way for us to learn about topics to our needs and wants here at OPCSD. Instead of a general meeting we are able to get specific information for us through the badge process. What's nice is the badges are completed at our own pace and provide us with resources that will help us in the future. Badges are easy to navigate and put all the information in one spot for us.

Digital Badging summary

Digital Badging is a great way to receive PD in the comfort of your own time and space.  These are very short learning opportunities that provide teachers with ways to stay up to date with the new and upcoming tools used in the classroom.  You must provide evidence and post your certificate when finished with each course.

Lynn Yannazio Explanation of digital badging process

A digital badge is a type of credential that allows you to complete learning online. They can be customized to meet the learners needs.  They represent a very specific skill or achievement and are typically 1-3 hours in length.
To complete the badge you can select a course from a catalog you would like to complete and then complete the requirements at your own pace. This is beneficial way to stay up to date with learning and complete the courses when it is convenient for you.

Digital badging is a way to take short classes on focused topics of interest, while being able to select the time and place to take the class. The class can be taken on any device and can be started and stopped at any time. Educators keep track of requested evidence as proof of attendance and can receive inservice credit afterwards.

Digital badging is a learn at your speed process so that you can learn information in small chunks (micro-credentialling).  It is a way to learn small chunks of information at a time in order to become proficient in that area of skills.  It also allows you to complete this learning at a time and place that is convenient for the learner.  Evidence is submitted and then reviewed before a digital badge is awarded.

Badging is a form of micro-credential that is asynchronous. It certifies that the badge holder is proficient in a specific skill.  The learner is to complete a given amount of steps and then submit evidence to prove that they have completed the requirements for a badge.  The learner must first ask for approval in Frontline, complete the badge and then request feedback before marking complete in frontline.

Digital badging courses allows us to take courses online as an "alternative to in-person events."  We can choose from various online courses that specifically help us grow in certain areas for our profession.  Expectations and learning goals are given to help decide what course(s) to complete.

These digital badging courses allow us to choose when to take them based on our time schedules when they are approved in Frontline.

After the course is taken and evidence is submitted for proof of completion, it is reviewed by OP staff.  Once we are awarded "the badge", we submit it as a PDF to Frontline to show completion in order to get credit for the course.
