To sign up for a Digital Badge, one must first sign up on Frontline for the specific badge.  Then, go to the Tech Hub and click Digital Badging.  Sign in using Google, then you can click on the badge.  Watch the video.  The nice thing about this is that one can complete this professional development on their own time.  After you complete the professional development, you have to give evidence such as a snip of what you learned, a reflection, and/or a link.  I also like that you can see who has completed this digital badge.  I like that you can go into your digital badge profile and it shows what badges you have earned.  I am glad the there was a video on how to do all of this, as I would have been lost trying to figure out how to earn the badge without it.

Digital badging is an alternative to in-person professional learning and is a self-directed way to earn micro-credentials in specific areas of skill. Digital badges are link to evidence of learning and are awarded only after evidence of learning has been uploaded and reviewed.

Digital Badging

Digital badging is a way to learn skills digitally. You may work at your own pace and save the videos to look at them again when needed. These are skills to use in your own classroom to help understand technology!

Digital Badging is a micro-credential made up of small chunks of learning. You do this online, so you can control when and where you take the course and do it at your own pace. All badges are created in-house. When you take a badge you will need to provide information on your proficiency and get feedback. The badges are only 1-3 hours long. You register through Frontline; take the course you are interested in; provide evidence of what you have learned and write up a reflection; request feedback; receive a badge and then submit that badge certificate to Frontline for MLP credit. Note you can review the required evidence and what the badge is about beforehand.

Digital badging is a platform that allows technology departments to provide staff development to its staff members. Staff sign up for courses in Frontline.  They visit the Digital Badging site to gain small bursts of knowledge on a particular topic.  To earn each badge, participants need to provide evidence of learning after watching a short video.  The best thing about this staff development is that it is done at the pace of the individual and at a time that is convenient for them.  These videos are also available for staff to revisit if needed.

The first thing you want to do in the digital badging process is register for the badge in the frontline.  Once you have registered in frontline you can go to the tech hub and find the digital badging page.  Once there,  you can click on the different badges to learn about them.  Each badge shows a description, the required evidence needed to obtain the badge, the target audience, and the learning goals.

Once you have decided on a badge you want to sign up for digital badging using your Google account, join the digital badging group and the badge you want.

You can see the badges that you are taking by checking your badge profile located in the profile icon.

In order to complete a badge, each badge will ask for a screenshot, reflection, or a link.  Once evidence is posted you can then request feedback from the badge reviewer.  Once the badge has been awarded you will receive an email.

The benefits of digital badging gives you a place to learn new things and practice things that you may need to get better with.
