ChaptGPT

  1.  A free AI chat bot. Chat GPT answers any range of questions from a range of topics. It draws data form the Internet from up to 2021 and it's trained itself to answer questions. Lensa and DallE 2 are particularly interesting variations of this rapidly emerging technology.
  2. Authenticity is definitely a concern. As an ELA teacher, of course the concern is that students will try to use these types of tools exclusively and bypass creative thought or their own synthesis. Chat GPT and other AI tools can be used responsibly and thoughtfully though. For instance, I've had students play with the interface to aid in brainstorming or even comparing the syntax and tone from Computer generated voice to authentic.

Evidence 1

Chat GPT is an AI chat bot.  Just as you would speak to Alexa at your house, you can ask Chat GPT.   By using a language model to simulate conversations with users, Chat GPT can create original computer generated writing.

Concerns that educators have is that what is generated by Chat GPT is not findable by plagiarism checkers.  Therefore, there is no way to tell what a student’s authentic work is.  With this being said, students may not be as motivated to continue to pay attention in class because Chat GPT can complete the formal/informal assessment for them.

However as teachers, when students get to a certain age, we can use it as a teachable moment.  We can show students that not everything is 100% accurate.  Students and teachers can use this to create a template to help teaching and learning.  Plus after grading papers, who couldn’t use help writing their dinner menu/shopping list after a long day of work.

Part 1 - What is ChatGPT?

Part 1 - What is ChatGPT? Explain what ChatGPT and what it can do.
It's a conversational AI model developed by Open AI. It is capable of engaging in human-like conversation, giving answers to questions, and generating original content. ChatGPT, Lensa, and DALL-E are giving more people without computing skills the chance to interact with artificial intelligence. These AI programs that can write detailed responses to questions or create stunning images based on prompts are all over social media. ChatGPT can answer questions, help you learn, write code, brainstorm together, and much more.
What concerns do you have for educators?  What do you look forward to?
As an educator, I find this technology fascinating. It does raise questions about students using it to write essays, answer research questions, and other applications. As an optimistic educator, I think everyone should use this tech to enhance their work. Essays written by students could be improved and edited by ChatGPT, giving everyone access to another form of instruction.

PART 1

Chat GPT is a program created by Open AI. It creates answers based on information it has been programed with and then finds out on the Internet. You can ask it a wide variety of questions or give it nearly any command. From a direct “What is the capital of New York State?” to “Write me a 4 page essay on the life of Teddy Roosevelt citing 3 sources” it will produce what you ask. It isn’t perfect, as at times the answers are not 100% accurate and the information is only up to date to 2021, when the program was written.

I think a concern most educators have, is will students attempt to use this tool as the means to do their work for them. Writing the essays they are asked to write for example, where teachers would be hard pressed to decide whether this was the students work or ChatGPTs.I think questions arise like “Will teachers be needed in 10-15 years?” or “What constitutes original work?” There are many pitfalls that we need to weigh about this topic.

I think the tool can be used in a positive light. For example, you can have students ask it a question and a class can evaluate the validity of it. Teachers can quickly plan lessons and activities by using ChatGPT.

Part 1 What is ChatGPT?

Chat GPT is a program based on artificial intelligence.  It uses information from sources on the internet to pull together anything from a letter, an essay, a play, or even a research paper.  It can be used as a way to cheat, where students would just ask ChatGPT to give them an essay about any topic at all, and in return receive a full completed essay.  This is scary, especially for teachers of the liberal arts. Teachers would have to be able to discern whether or not the language used is that of their students. It also can be used as a tool.  I know someone who put in the specifications of a job description and ChatGPT gave them a full, concise job description to be posted on Indeed.  I think if we educate students to use this as a tool and not as a form of cheating, it could be useful.  I can also be useful for teachers.  You can ask ChatGPT to give you a lesson plan, then edit it to meet the needs of your classroom. The one important thing to remember is that technology is imperfect and information must be fact-checked. It also can be used by parents to help their children do work, especially on topics they don't know a lot about.

Part 1 Responses

ChatGPT is an AI chat bot that will respond to the user like another human being. It can answer any (reasonable) questions, write something via a prompt, or it can create anything a user requests. ChatGPT is like an Amazon Alexa, but mainly for text based responses.

Educators should be concerned because it makes it extremely easy for students to type in a prompt and have ChatGPT to do the work for them. The more specific instructions that are given to ChatGPT, the more detailed of a response can be spit back to the user. Students can use ChatGPT to do their homework for them, whether that's a solving a certain equation, writing an essay, or anything in between. Another concern that comes from this is that the skill sets students need to learn throughout their schooling may

What is nice about ChatGPT is that it can also be used as a tool for teachers. Lesson Plans can be created using ChatGPT and then modified as needed, reports can be generated, and even a series of questions for a homework can be generated by ChatGPT.

Part 1-Redone (accidentally posted part 2 here)

Chat GPT can create, design and give feedback or information on a variety of topics. As an educator, there are some concerns to keep in mind. One concern is that students might rely too much on ChatGPT instead of learning from their teachers and classmates. Another concern is that ChatGPT might sometimes give incorrect or biased information, so it's important to double-check and not believe everything it says. It's also important to use ChatGPT responsibly and not share personal or private information with it.However, there are also exciting things to look forward to as an educator. ChatGPT can be a valuable resource to enhance learning and engage students. It can provide instant feedback and assist with research. Overall, ChatGPT has the potential to be a helpful companion in the learning journey, as long as it's used in the right way and alongside the guidance of real teachers.

Part 1

ChatGPT is designed to provide answers, explanations, and suggestions about various topics. After having used ChatGPT, I think it can be a handy tool for learning. But I also want to be careful because sometimes it might not give the right answers or could be a bit biased. So, I would need to double-check the information it gives me. As a 5th grade teacher, I might consider using ChatGPT with my students, but not as a replacement for everything. ChatGPT can be a fun addition to the classroom, helping us find ideas, getting quick feedback, and even sparking critical thinking. But I would make sure to guide my students and remind them that real teachers are always there to provide personalized guidance and support.

Part 1

ChatGPT is an AI program that can talk like a human. It gives responses in a chat format. This is a tool that can help humans with many questions, explain things, and have back and forth dialogue.
As an educator this tool could be concerning for student if they don't use it as a tool but rather a platform to cheat or cut corners when it comes to assignments. It is important that I teach students this is a tool to HELP and SUPPORT you so they know how to properly and appropriately use the platform. I also find this to be super helpful for educators. For example, I have used ChatGPT to help answer questions in an Earth Science unit I just taught about phenomenons that I did not know some explanations to and also used it to write an example opinion essay for students to reference to as a mentor.

Explain what ChatGPT and what it can do? What concerns do you have for educators? What do you look forward to?

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence, chatbot, that provides human like answers to any questions you have. The company who created this is Open AI. Anyone can use this to help them enhance their thinking. Though many do have concerns about the power of it's ability.

As an elementary teacher I am not really concerned. I have been having conversations with my co-workers about how schools do need to change. We still have this very traditional way of teaching like in the little red school house days- kids sit at desks, we have blocks of time that we do certain things, etc. This new way of life with technology really should flip things so that kids can take more of their learning in their own hands. It would be neat to provide them with the standard, they use chat GPT to investigate and learn how to do that, and then foster the relationships and learning happening while using the 7 habits. A lot of kids in the classrooms are struggling with ADHD. They can't stay still unless they are really actively engaged in something. This again would allow kids to have more power over their education. It could change their mindset to instead of waiting to find the ways to solve the problem, then they could take the problem in their own hands and figure out how to solve it without waiting for "next steps". I'm always finding ways as a teacher to empower kids to take charge of their learning. This would help with that.

Part 1- What is CHATGPT?

ChatGPT is a free AI chatbot tool that is capable of creating conversations similar to humans. It uses a language called GPT to simulate a conversation with users. Not only can it answer questions that you ask but it also can be very creative and write things for you. It is a better way to Google in the sense that it answers your questions in writing. The questions that you can ask can range from simple to more complex, but it has many capabilities in terms of what the user wants it to be. You can also ask odd combinations of questions, but its limitations do include that it provides some incorrect information. ChatGPT is able to come up with its answers because it is "trained" on massive amounts of data.

As an educator, I can understand why initially it brings up some concern. Obviously, certain points are made such as "Is the teaching of writing dead?" and "How do we know students aren't plagiarizing?" or even "How do we know teachers are writing their own lesson plans and understanding what they're teaching?". I can understand those concerns, but after listening further I believe that there is a way to use this tool not only to help our teaching but to help our students' learning become more creative. Instead of viewing ChatGPT as a goodbye to roles such as teaching, writing, artists, etc. I believe it's important to think of this as an enhancement. As stated in the podcast, take the good from this tool and use it as a starting point. As with any online tool, learning how to use it correctly is most important. Instead of using it to write an essay, you can use it to learn more information about a particular topic. Another great idea that I would love to try in my classroom is having students use ChatGPT to write an essay for them, but then having them take the essay and break it into a graphic organizer. Not only would this guide them in how to plan for a written response, but it would also help them begin with the end in mind. I believe it is important to find ways to problem solve and use ChatGPT in a way that will still allow students to use higher-order thinking skills.

ChatGPT is a conversational AI that can answer questions in writing.

ChatGPT is a conversational AI that can answer questions in writing. It is free. It can produce essays, plays, and songs. It can answer complex questions. It will also let you know when there is a question that it cannot answer. It is not full proof. It can make mistakes. It can produce essays that would pass as a students work.   I can see the pros and cons of ChatGPT. As a teaching tool it has endless possibilities. In my role, I would use ChatGPT to create essays for various events in history and then have student’s fact check the essays. They would effectively reverse engineer its creation verifying the contents and including a complete citation page. This would be a great way for students to learn or revisit the research process. My concern comes from those students who will use it thinking it is a shortcut to complete assignments. I think this is a real possibility. It is also scary that programs that currently check for plagiarism cannot always detect a ChatGPT creation. Kids could potentially take credit for work that is not their own.   I think the best way to move forward is to let kids know we are aware of this product and that we want to explore its possibilities together.
