Part 1

ChatGPT is a free artificial intelligence tool that can answer questions, brainstorm ideas, and assist with mundane tasks like lesson planning, writing, and creative design. I’ve used it in many ways, for both my professional and personal life. My main concern for educators is that some may rely on it too heavily without adding their own voice or expertise to what it spits out. Students can tell when teachers just use AI generated materials and find it somewhat hypocritical because they are encouraged to do all of their own work independently. I’m really looking forward to learning unique uses for ChatGPT that I haven't already tried.

No the essay is not dead. There are many topics that chatGPT is not able to answer.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is Artificial Intelligence that is “...capable of engaging in human-like conversations, providing answers to questions and even generating original content.” Basically, someone can type in questions to ChatGPT and it will give you answers. This can help with countless things such as writing emails, write report card comments,  create leveled reading books for students, creating images to go with a text and even more.

One of my concerns is making sure students understand that AI is there to help them with their work, not do their work for them. I worry students will start to rely on AI to complete their assignments.

I look forward to AI helping to enhance my lessons to create more engaging lessons for my students.

Task 1

ChatGPT is a type of artificial intelligence (AI) that can create a response that sounds like a real person. You can ask it questions, help you find answers, write stories or emails, give ideas for lessons, explain things in simple terms, or even help check your work. I am learning that the ways to use Chat GPT are pretty much endless!

One concern is making sure students still learn how to think and produce their own work, instead of just relying on AI to do the work. We want to be sure students don’t use AI to copy answers or skip the learning process. There’s also a concern about making sure information is accurate, fair, and age-appropriate. Teachers need to educate themselves on how to use tools like ChatGPT responsibly and ethically so they can model this to the students.

I look forward to learning more about Chat GPT and all the different ways I can use it to maximize my limited time both professionally and personally!

Chat GPT: what is it?

Free AI Chatbot that you can ask any questions and it will  write various responses.  It can't answer predictions or existential questions.    You state a prompt or question, and it will formulate a response based on  the data that it gathers from the internet.  It pulls from that to answer questions.   It can also create songs and images that you can tweek by giving it more detailed information.

What concerns do you have for educators?
It can give responses that are incorrect because the internet has some false information.  You should use this tool to enhance your own writing, not to do all of your writing.  Chat GPT can be used to write responses that the student should be actually writing.

3. I look forward to continuing to use it to create therapy materials like for mixed groups of students.  I can have it write a play focusing on various speech sounds or grammar structures at the kids' reading levels.  I also look forward to when I can add a video and it will transcribe it for me.

What is ChatGPT and what can it do?

Chat GPT is a internet chat bot that has, as the video said, infinite possibilities. It can be used like a Google search and gathers information from basically everywhere on the internet and is able to provide feedback/content within seconds. The concerns I have are students using it to create their work, instead of doing the work for them. As the interview pointed out, they can prompt it to write an essay about physics and pokemon, and it can, and also provide similarities and comparisons- so this shows how truly innovative this bot is. It can create a sensical essay out of two seemingly disconnected topics. I did like how the interview explained that it should be used to enhance work- for things like brainstorming, or when students get stuck, or help generate ideas, instead of creating the work for them. In this, I can see how it can be very helpful, especially in an English class.

Evidence

Chat GPT is an AI chatting service developed by OpenAI. Through Chat GPT, people can engage in human conversations and information seeking. Chat GPT can generate original content, essays, lessons plans,,,virtually anything the person using it asks for. The service using algorithms to create its responses . There are some limitations as sometimes it may not know the answer or give incorrect information.
Concerns as an educator: I go back and forth between Chat GPT and its place in education. At first I really believed it to be something that hinder students leanring and give them an “easy way out”. Now, seeing hoe some teachers have incorporated it into their classroom my beliefs have somewhat changed. I think it has great potential to set students up for success and enhance what they already know. Now with that being said, I still think using it education needs to be heavily monitored to make sure its enhancing and not replacing students learning. Not only do I think students need to be educated on its uses and HOW to use it, I think teachers and staff do too. I look forward to learning a lot more about AI and its uses. My hope is that it can be a tool for all of us and not the enemy

Part 1: Chat GPT

These resources talked about just a few of the things that Chat GPT can do. It mentioned the few of upper level teachers in fear. That college essay wouldn't be a thing or english essays. It talked about Chat GPT making grocery lists from recipes or coming up with drafts for report cards. The biggest take away from this, besides the amount of things Chat GPT can do, is to not fear it. An english teacher showed his students Chat GPT and had it write an essay for them. Then he asked his student to make a graphic organizer from that essay. He is teaching it as a tool and thinking outside the box.

I think having concerns is understandable as an educator, but there will always be something to worry about when it comes to our students. This can be a super power tool as a teacher, and possible students, if we introduce it like we do everything else and show them how to best utilize it.

Reflections on ChatGPT

Chat GPT is an AI Model/ Chat Bot that has the ability to generate original content when given a specific prompt. Essentially it is a form of AI that has been trained on data from the internet--- but that data is infinite so it’s hard to say where the limits of it exist. Obviously this comes with a lot of positives- it democratizes information, is free of financial cost for users,  it can grow our understanding of certain mediums (like what is art capable of? Or who is capable of being an artist?) but there are a lot of potential negatives that can come with it too, especially if appropriate guardrails are not put in place from the beginning.

One concern that I have as an educator and that I’ve seen with actual students is that they have a hard time understanding that using ChatGPT for certain assignments can be seen as a form of plagiarism. I’ve had students who think because they typed the prompt for ChatGPT that the answer given to them truly is “theirs” and therefore not cheating. It’s a different mindset that I think we will see more of as AI becomes a more integrated part of our lives and individuals use it at a younger age. I also think AI is growing so fast that we are not going to be able to put particular guardrails in place quickly enough (or even know WHAT guardrails need to be put in place) and it feels like once these forms of tech are out and begin to be used, there is no going backwards. It reminds me alot of how we are trying to put boundaries around cell phones and social media with teenagers--- and it can be very challenging.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is an AI language model designed to understand and generate human-like text. It can assist with a variety of tasks, such as answering questions, providing explanations, helping with writing, and engaging in conversation. It's useful for generating ideas, offering tutoring support, and even creating content like stories or essays.

Some concerns for educations are academic integrity and lack of critical thinking. Relying on AI can lead to students getting answers without understanding and not using problem solving skills. What I am most looking forward to as an educator is how it can enhance so many worksheet and quizzes. It can modify them, differentiate them, and customize activities to make them a better tool for you.

What is ChatGPT and what can it do? What concerns do you have for educators? What do you look forward to?

PART 1

 1. Explain what ChatGPT is and what it can do?

ChatGPT is a free AI chat bot that you can talk to and ask any question. It can also create original content. It is pre-trained. ChatGPT communicates with you to create content of your choosing. It can answer questions, create essays, write plans or directions, basically anything you ask it. ChatGPT uses some predictive algorithms to create its responses. Sometimes it has difficulty giving responses as it may not know the answer, have the incorrect information or not be able to answer more existential questions.

What concerns do you have for educators?  What do you look forward to?

Originally, I thought that it would take away the importance of writing and spelling and essay format, but I now believe it will enhance student’s writing and learning. I think you need to teach students when and how to use it so it is not misused. I also worry that the content may not always be correct or appropriate, as the bot is learning from the information we are putting in.  I’ve used it to help create texts to use with students and write parts of lessons I’ve needed extra inspiration for or was at a loss at how I would connect two topics.
