Plagiarism topic is always a relevant topic that teachers have to seriously talk about at the beginning of every class. It is part of academic integrity and violations off it can carry severe penalties, so this type of graphics would be very appropriate to introduce this topic and later on to asses student's learning.

Relevance:

Plagiarism is always going to be something that needs to be talked about as a teacher. Even though I am an early childhood education major, the poster I made could be used in my classroom just as an introduction to why students should never plagiarize, whether it is then, or later on, in their lives. Plagiarism is a serious offense and it is possible for people to do so by accident, so explaining what plagiarism is is highly important.

I think this is relevant to my future classroom because plagiarism is an academic misconduct. Having a graphic on it will help the students know more about it, but also make it look nice. I could use this by having the students make their own graphic over it. That way they know the process of finding something that is common use, or knows how to site what they use. Them actually going through the process will help them not plagiarize later in life.

Relevance

This graphic will be relevant to my future classroom because it will remind the students that there is no tolerance for plagiarism. This can be hung up in the classroom or put on the board when beginning projects, papers, and general assignments to remind students to complete their own work. I would also emphasize the importance of originality when we are creating in class.

I can see myself using Canva as a teacher to create graphics for my classroom. I see it being a money saving tool to be able to create my own posters for the wall, instead of having to buy them at teacher stores, as well as more useful, since I can customize what is put on them. I love how professional projects on Canva always turn out, and it is so user friendly.

I really enjoyed this badge, I felt it was very relevant for my future classroom. This would be a great way to introduce talking about plagiarism. This could even be a lesson in itself where the students can create their own posters and present them for the class. This is more fun and engaging than telling students its bad or sending a letter home.

Future Classroom

Plagiarism is an important concept for students to learn about. Students must know what plagiarism is and how it works. Plagiarism works when someone copies someone else's work. Students should learn from the beginning not to copy other student's work or any outside sources without citing them. This is also important for teachers to be aware of. Plagiarism can get people into serious legal trouble. Sharing and distributing products that are not free is a very bad thing.

This is relevant to my future classroom. I will likely use this for newsletters for families. This site offers a great variety of images, text fonts, and other features that will keep me from making the boring Times New Roman, 12-point font page of words for parents. I know I would not like to read something that looked boring to me, so bringing in the different colors, fonts, and images will definitely help me bring in families' attentions. My students can also use this site to demonstrate and display their learning. Instead of using the typical markers and posters for a presentation or for making invitations to school events, students can use this site to create more professional and visually pleasing products.

Reflection for Creating a Plagiarism Graphic

Overall, I liked this activity. I like making things that I think will appeal to my students while also getting them to think about certain important things (like originality and citing sources). However, I will say that I was having a bit of a difficult time coming up with something for this graphic. I included Iron Man to start with because I was thinking more along the lines of Tony Stark’s all-seeing AI J.A.R.V.I.S.; I wanted to say some kind of catchphrase about how the students should make sure to cite their sources because they would never know who was looking over their work (a sort of “big brother” reference). That didn’t sound very well though, and it turned out to be kind of overbearing and paranoid (also implying that they should only avoid plagiarism when watched, which is not true). So then I went a different route, thinking more along the lines of how original Tony Stark’s idea for the Iron Man suit was, so I went with “Originality is Key”; focusing on the fact that being original is most important and that all original work from other people should be cited (implied with my picture citation at the bottom). Overall, it was an interesting activity.

Future classroom

I didn’t realize that we needed to create a plagiarism poster that would be relevant to our future class (for me, it’s math education). Even though my poster has a more literature focus, I could still use this when I have students do research project over mathematicians which is something I really want to implement in all the courses I will teach. Students will need to gather sources about their assigned mathematicians which they will need to cite as well.

I think making a graphic and posting it in a classroom would be great for many different purposes. I think using popular themes or interests of the students could also help them notice the graphics and pay attention to their content. This could be useful to post rules or other information the students need to see. I think it is also important for students to see examples and see that the teacher also follows the rules. Creating a plagiarism graphic and citing the sources used to make the graphic is the perfect example to show students how they should also cite their sources in their work. I like the idea of having work the teacher created hanging around the classroom instead of just posters that they bought at the store.

I used an adobe app to create my graphic. This is a simple and creative graphic I would use in my classroom to remind the kids about plagerism. The graphic encourages students to be themselves and express their own ideas. I loved the app and will use it in the future!
