Reflection

The graphic I made is specifically meant to remind kids that, when they turn in an original assignment, all of the work and creativity must be their own. Of course, other graphics would work well with this one to remind kids that, when they do use material from other sources, they should cite them. Teaching kids to be responsible about what they pass off as their own is so important in today's world, where the work of others is always so close at hand. When we remind students that they have the potential to be authentic, creative creators in this world, not just consumers, I think we teach them an important lesson about their role in this age of information. We can also teach them about their own great potential to contribute intellectually to our info-driven society, just like so many authors of the past and present.

I could use this graphic to show my students about what classifies as plagiarism. I could also share it with my fellow peers at OU and future coworkers. I also think Canva can be helpful and fun for students to use to display information that they have learned.

Cool way to make posters for my classroom

Canva is an easy way for me to make posters for my future classroom. When I was a student, I always liked it when teachers had posters on their walls because it gave me something to look at and to learn from. By creating graphics such as this one about plagiarism, it will serve as reminders to students and hopefully teach them.

This is relevant to my future classroom in that I will need to make little presentations like this for my students from time to time. I wont necessarily need to talk to the younger early childhood students about plagiarism, but maybe starting around 1st grade it may become relevant.

Plagiarism

As a future teacher it is important to keep the idea of plagiarism and its consequences present in my classroom. I think it is a very good idea to have a graphic on plagiarism in the classroom because it will keep academic honesty in the front of my students minds. When I become a teacher it would be foolish to think that plagiarism won't happen in my class but even more fools to think that my student will automatically know what plagiarism means. Having a poster like this in the room would be a great way to start the conversation of copping in my classroom. Another great thing about a plagiarism graphic is that my student will know that I am remembering plagiarism and hopefully it will discourage them from doing it.

Plagiarism is something that needs to be taught really early in schools because it is so important. Having a graphic like this addressing plagiarism, and other important topics, is a great and easy way to get information across to students, parents, and even other staff members. The more we inform our students on how to avoid plagiarism, the better!

I think Canva was a great way to get across important ideas to students. In my future classroom it will be helpful to use to help save money on posters, while also customizing them to best fit the classroom. Canva was also super user friendly application to use, and kids could even use this for a variety of ways in the classroom. The app also gives kids the opportunity to personalize their creation and add fun aspects that they will enjoy sharing.

Relavence

For my future students, I want them to realize that plagiarism is stealing. Most people would not steal any physical objects, but they would be willing to plagiarize if they knew that they wouldn’t get caught. The point of this is to strike people’s morality instead of implementing a rule.

I think plagiarism is often overlooked in the math classroom.

When math is seen as a series of abstract computations that lead to a singular correct answer, it seems that there is no room for original ideas. However, in my future classrooms, I hope that I can clear up this misconception by shifting the focus from getting the right answer, to the journey of problem solving that it took to get there. I don’t want my students to just be able to share their answers and get a good grade, I want them to share ideas and approaches so that they see that problems can be solved in a variety of ways. When they see math as being flexible, they gain the freedom to be creative, adding their own original ideas mathematics. Using my graphic on plagiarism, I can teach students to feel free to share ideas, teach their peers, and be creative, while also teaching them about plagiarism, which I feel is often overlooked in the math classroom.

A querky graphic on plagiarism, strategically placed in the classroom, can help encourage honesty and academic legitimacy in the classroom. By having constant visual reminders and clear expectations that plagiarism is not accepted in or out of the classroom, students will be less likely to commit academic misconduct.

On the more practical side, by using tools such as canva to create informational graphics is a way to add a little pizaz the classroom while still supplying useful information. I would use this to create other similar types of fliers and information posters in the future.

During our duration of class we have talked about plagiarism numerous of times. I like that we had to make a graphic on this topic. I chose to use canva. This app only allows you to do so much without costing "coins". I personally had trouble getting the text in the right spot and making it look the way I wanted it to. I like this assignment because it allows me to give a summarization using technology in a fun way. I most likely will use this as a similar assignment. having the student summarize a topic using an app of their choice and have them explain why they decided to use the app and why they chose to make what they made.
