Comments from coach

Patricia, what a great video of you modeling LINCS with your math students. You had great evidence of co-construction with your students, and you gave a great Cue-Do-Review with your students. I really liked the way you worked with your students to have a great reminding word. You had a list of examples prepared to help them see how to select one as you went from “fence” to “path” for the word perimeter. I also really like how you showed your students how to self-test, once they have completed their LINCS Tables.

My professional developer was helpful in providing feedback to ensure me that I was implementing the routine appropriately.

Lisa Adkins- coach

Lisa Adkins is our coach. I, Brian Teucke, and my partner, Dana Cooper, have communicated with Lisa Adkins via email.  We began e-mailing October 27, 2017.  We have sent examples of lesson plans and samples of both LINCing and FRAMES that we have already done in class.   We just completed our video and will be forwarding it to Lisa shortly for her to review. Lisa regularly checked in with us again to make sure we completing and uploading the evidence.

Feedback from Judith

Judith completed the feedback form. She stated that she felt like the LINCing story that we came up with may be a bit long. She felt that my students had learned the strategy and she could tell that we had been practicing it. We now use the routine weekly.

As part of the "Site of Excellence" grant I was afforded the opportunity to learn about Vocabulary Linc'ing.  This was a worthwhile experience that showed how allowing students the opportunity to take a lead in their learning would allow them to better understand vocabulary.  Many of the students I work with have struggles in vocabulary development because of outside factors.  Allowing them the opportunity to make their vocabulary come alive is something I will continue to use and implement in my classroom, especially in small reading groups to help students to better learn and apply their vocabulary.

My mentor has been a valuable asset during this process!

In my years as a special education teacher, I loved the opportunities to co-teach with general educators.  I believe that whenever there is a chance to work with others, the product will ALWAYS be better!  The badging process has proven to be the same.  As I created a draft, my mentor, Ginni, would review, provide feedback, and then the draft became better.  Once the draft was complete, the final product was something to be proud of!  My mentor's ideas, and feedback would really help to generate a final product that benefited the students; keeping them in engaged and enthusiastic about vocabulary!  I love the LINCing routine since it provides students with the opportunity to link prior knowledge with new information.  Not only have I learned from Ginni as we've walked through this process, I've had fun, as well!
