What went well - I think the frame went well.  I think it was a good tool to summarize the entire unit to the students a few days before the test.
What was a challenge - Why?  I struggled with the SO WHAT.  I feel like I need to incorporate that more into my curriculum.
What you will do next time - next time I might see how the students like filling it out a little bit at a time.  It was a lot to do at one time.
What adjustments you made - I want to have more of the kids involved.  They were nervous as this was a new routine and I didn't have as much interaction from them as I usually do.

Implementation log for the lesson used for this badge

Log of implementation

It was easy to follow the script to implement the routine. It was challenging adding examples and thinking about the responses I wanted to elicit from the students. I should have provide the student in the 2nd video with the list of prefixes and suffixes to refer to during the lesson. I liked how structured the lessons were for the teaching of the different parts of morphemes. Using the framing routine to review morphemes was a great way to see what the student knew and what we would still need to practice.

Video 2 Log

Working with a student was a little different than implementing with a colleague.  I thought to prepare with possible responses he might give; however, with such excitement, I did not anticipate him to be so quiet.  I did have to give him think time to process since the lesson was new to him.  Our lesson was rushed for time since his after school tutoring session was quickly coming to a close when I did the video.  I am glad he made the connection that he could use this frame with other classes to help him remember content.

Log similar to Reflection

Apologies for the redundancy to my Portfolio Implementation.  Overall the lesson went well because I had the support of the textbook.  I normally do not teach writing using this strategy, however I do see how teachers can use this to scaffold the tasks which would build success for the students at every step.  I was challenging to do it with my colleague because she was able to piece the activity together vs. a student who might struggle in areas.  This lesson would probably take me twice as long if I had done it with students.  I feel the speed and fluency rate at which students vs. an adult writes is so different.  I would have like to see a lot more verbal discussions and generating of ideas so that teacher guidance would be at a very minimal level.  There was a sense of easy and accomplishment once the frame was completed together.

Reflection

Being prepared for the lesson help tremendously.
I solicited a lot of examples from my colleague which I thought helped to clarify the learning and make the connection.  I would have like to used more than a frame with more than one main idea.

Framing Routine Log

What went well - Why?
- I felt the lesson flowed well because the tool was easy to use.  However, I forgot to discuss the extension activity.
What was a challenge - Why?
- Creating different (So What) summaries was a bit of a challenge, but not a big deal.
What you will do next time?
-It would be nice to use this device with content from a student curriculum (I used content from a professional development session).

Interview

I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of positive feedback I received from Melissa and Lisa.  Both women found this frame to be very valuable and said that they would use this in trainings or consultations when dealing with classroom management.

I would like to ask you some questions about this Frame.
1.      How do you think this helps us learn information about classroom management and how do you think this will help you in your jobs?

M: I really like how it is organized into the main ideas and details.  I would love to use this in a training with teachers.  It is really easy to go back and review and it’s also easy to construct together and keep organized.

L: It flows really nicely.  You can understand what is most useful and then you can make it your own. It is really explicit and that is important in a classroom.
2.      How do you think you could use this in the future?

L:  This is definitely going into my trainings and consultations.  I have a couple teachers that this is holding back their success in reading for sure.

M: It would be great for new teachers. They are overwhelmed in the beginning of the year – how to start but when they prioritize and focus on the main ideas they can zone in on what they need.

Participants responded well. It was a good way to practice co-constructing the FRAME. I like using it as a review
