Plastic contaminates soil

Plastic wastes lead to damage and contamination in our ecosystem. Soil has been neglected and it is taking a huge toll on agriculture. Dumping plastic wastes has a harmful effect on cultivation as well as taking a toll on the lives of species that live within that soil. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.envpol.2018.05.008

Air Pollution May Pose Serious Risks to Young Children

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/13/well/family/air-pollution-may-pose-serious-risks-to-young-children.html?rref=collection%2Ftimestopic%2FAir%20Pollution&action=click&contentCollection=science&region=stream&module=stream_unit&version=latest&contentPlacement=4&pgtype=collection

This article describes the risks that air pollution has on young children. One of those risks is Acute respiratory infection of the lungs and airways. Out of 146, 397 people that were part of the study in the American  Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 77% of children younger than 2 years old had infections and were treated in hospitals and clinics.

America's most populated areas lose 175,000 acres of tree cover every year

Climate change is staring us in the face, but as a species, we continue our destructive habits that fuel it. Forests are one of the essential ways in which we can help to combat climate change. However, instead of planting more trees, we continuously destroy them. Furthermore, it isn't just the destruction of forests that is contributing to climate change, but the removal of trees within cities as well. According to the article, "America's most populated areas lose 175,000 acres of tree cover every year", approximately 36 million trees each year in American cities and surrounding areas are lost. Trees soak up carbon dioxide, clean up air pollutants, provide cooler climates by providing shade, reduce noise, and slow down floods. It seems as if we would take this information we know about trees and put it to use by planting more trees, not by removing them by the millions each year. This populous cities are where a vast majority of American's live (80% according to the article), so it's where we need the trees most. It's time that we stop focusing on the development of more concrete and begin to focus on the development of parks and trees.

Lead poisoning and the deceptive recovery of the critically endangered California condor

This article discussed how the California condors have required management even after they have been released from a recovery program because there are still threats in their environment. They were on the brink of extinction partly because of lead poisoning, which is still a significant threat today after they've been released back into the wild. The article examines how lead poisoning is the biggest threat to the successful recovery of condors. It also discusses how most of the lead that condors are consuming are from fragments of lead ammunition that people use for hunting. The authors of the article concluded that this issue requires intensive ongoing management because although there is a lead ban in areas considered condor county, condors are still being poisoned from lead that they consume when they fly outside of the area. However, there is a total ban on hunting with lead ammo that goes into effect in the summer of 2019, so hopefully the instances of lead poisoning will decrease after this.

Review is on a Recent Article from LA times about the effect the raise of global travel has on the environment.

The article discussing the new founding research that was done in a 5 year period cap between 2009 to 2013. The researchers looking for the impact of traveling had on the carbon footprint The new research revealing that the total of 8 percent of all global greenhouse gas emissions comes from the traveling. This includes the air flights, car rentals and lodging. The aspect of traveling and seeing new places is important but it also effecting the environment. Also, brings to light that we increase of income and desire to explore, willing probably lead for the percent to increase.

"Biosphere of war"

This article talks about Ganza having undrinkable drinking water due to contamination. The contamination is due to sealing borders among neighboring countries, leading to lack of access to filters to produce safe drinking water. This act of war affects the noxious water cycle, but is only a part within a biosystem that interacts with other biomes.

Since obesity was one of the main health risks in our chapter 17 this past week and since it is so prevalent to our day to day lives, I thought it would be a good idea to research some health risks that occur with obesity. This article states that obesity is one of the most important preventable diseases in most developed countries. Which I TOTALLY agree with! Obesity is becoming more and more common all around the world. In this case, not signifying a good place in society for the most part. There are two tables that are shown in this article the first showing classifications of Obesity using the BMI - Body Mass Index of the average person. The second table goes into more detail showing the actual health risks of obesity . Categories ranging from medical, surgical, Gynecological/Obstetric, Social and Psychological. This article really helped me get an outlook on what are the major effects that occur if one ends up becoming obese.

"Pollution"

https://www.nationalgeographic.org/encyclopedia/pollution/

There are all different kinds of pollution that disrupts our universe. Trash pollution has many different types of items that takes anywhere from 4 weeks to 500 years to decompose, and kills the organisms that come in contact with it.
Noise pollution is unpleasant sounds that disrupts the environment around us. Light pollution is the excess amount of light in the sky, often found in urban areas. Air pollution can be very dangerous and visible, usually from the cause of gas and exhaust.

This article explained the water cycle as an open system. It covered how it is the natural circulation that water goes through. However, as there is climate change, it has been noted that the cycle changes. That is why the cycle needs to be constantly updated as it is changing due to change in climate. This is hwy the article also states the importance of hydroscience and those countries putting it to play.

The Water Cycle

After reading the article about the hydrologic cycle posted by NASA, I have a better understanding of how the water system works. The water is heated by the sun causing evaporation. Then water condenses into clouds. This then leads to precipitation: water falls into the Earth by either rain or snow. Transpiration than occurs and finally infiltrate where water from the ground is released back into the ocean.

This article published on the Science Journal talks about the various impact that air pollution has had in various aspect of human life. Furthermore, authors Zivin and Niedell (2018) talk about the impact that air pollution control has had on various areas around the world. Additionally, the author suggest that research in the area of air pollution and the effects should be studied further in order to get a proper understand of the impacts.

Ecosystems on National Geographic

According to National Geographic, a ecosystem is a geographic territory where plants, creatures, and different living beings, and climate and scene, cooperate to shape a rise of life. Biological systems contain biotic or living, parts, and in addition abiotic factors, or nonliving parts. Biotic components incorporate plants, creatures, and different life forms. Abiotic factors incorporate rocks, temperature, and dampness.
One of the most diverse ecosystem in the world is the Coral Triangle located in Southeast Asia. It extends from northern Philippines, all the way to the Solomon Islands.
