Word Level - Word ID

  1. Provide the name of the word-level strategy chosen. I chose the Word Identification Strategy.
  2. Provide a narrative of your implementation experiences (length of implementation, what went well and/or poorly, adjustments made if necessary, ideas generated for issues encountered, and impact.)  We began the strategy on September 8, 2020 with a pretest.  We ended the strategy on January 4, 2021 with a posttest.  This strategy went well; however a large number of students were still on virtual learning.  I identified that alot of students had deficiencies in phonics, ie.  dipthongs cannot be seperated as they make one sound (sh, th, ph) and soft c and g sounds (c says /s/ if it is followed by a e, i, y).
  3. Provide a student portfolio (without identifying student information), including progress chart(s) and/or fluency sheets and pre/post-test data.  Attached as evidence
  4. Submit a narrative describing coaching, feedback, and follow up, identifying your coach. Attached as evidence
  5. Describe use of classroom observation and/or video during coaching. Consider featuring the Model Stage for this evidence (optional: post the video and instructional checklist used during the coaching session). Attached as evidence

Narrative of implementation experiences

I taught the complete Word Id Strategy from pretest on 8/25/20 to posttest on 10/13/2020.  I also gave the pretest for Word Mapping while giving the pretest for Word ID.
After completing the first six days of Word Mapping, the Describe stage, completing the Notes Sheet, and successfully passing the Word Mapping Strategy Quiz, I jumped into the Word ID strategy.
While we worked through Word ID, then into Self-Questioning, I taught one of the six Prefix lessons, then one of the Suffix, and finally one of the Roots lessons, one lesson per week.
Usually on Monday, I would give the students notes on the new Prefix, completing all three sections of the Learning Sheet, then we would review on Wednesday (quiz, quiz, trade with a partner), then we would take the Prefix Quiz on Friday.  The next week, we would do Prefix #2 and so on.  Regularly we would review, so the students would be familiar and prepared for the post test on Word Mapping.
