SIM -Look at us now

I began this journey in 1982 with my graduate work and here it is 33 years later!
And we are still blazing new trails- look at us now!
In VA, the requirement for the last activity of the PPDI is the group must come up with a name and it must contain SIM.
Here are a few of the names the PPDIs have created:

SIM History

I first began using S.I.M. in the classroom back in 1993. My experience included use of S.I.M. in classroom instruction with both Learning Strategies and Content Enhancement Routines. After using the strategies and routines in the classroom, I then became a Professional Developer first for Content Enhancement then Learning Strategies. Finally, I became a PD Leader!

My success with SIM in classrooms motivated me to help others across the country learn and use SIM to meet the learning needs of all kids.

I have been certified in SIM learning strategies and content enhancement for many years and have had the opportunity to work on national projects that focused on school-wide change using the SIM strategies and routines.  I have worked with the Content Literacy Continuum framework in these projects, and I am also experienced with helping schools set up secondary reading programs for adolescent struggling readers.  Through it all, I have had the opportunity to provide professional development to teachers across the country and work with many of them as they, in turn, became certified in SIM.

Taught SIM LS since 1980, became LS PDer in 1982, implemented CERs since 1991 (including early drafts), PDL, research, products, presented

-have taught LS since 1980 and implemented them as soon as they were published or field-tested them before they were published 
-became SIM PDer in 1982, provided district-wide professional development and coaching throughout St. Louis County (and surrounding counties) for over 30 years
-taught LS and CERs in college courses at Webster University for over 20 years
-implemented CERs since 1991 - field-tested early research drafts of CERs and have shared CERs with others 
-assisted CRL researchers with research and field testing, co-authored article with CRL researchers
-PDL over 15 years 
-editor and co-author of CER Supplements
-assisted in writing grants for research
-coordinated research projects in several states
-co-authored reading passage books for Self-Questioning and Visual Imagery
-have attended every SIM International Conference since 1982 except one and have attended many other regional updates; have presented at most of the conferences 
-SIM Leadership Award
