Part 3

What are your thoughts and possible predictions on industry and/or life moving forward?
AI is already being used everywhere and is at our fingertips. It is alarming how quickly we can receive the information we request using AI without doing any thinking. For this reason, it is imperative that educators continue to plan engaging activities that will help students practice thinking.

What role does education have on the use of AI?
I think it is great that AI can bring equity to our students. However, I think it is very important that we teach students when and how to use AI appropriately. Teachers will need to be trained in the use of AI as well.

PART 3 - REFlECTION

It is clear the AI is not going away, rather it is getting more advanced every day. I feel that AI is not a replacement for jobs, but will require people to know how to use and manage what is available to make the jobs less time consuming.

AI has a role in education to help teachers spend less time on housekeeping and correcting items, and allows for more time spent 1 on 1 with kids. There is a lot to be said for taking the load off of teachers to allow more face to face time with students during the school day.

Part 3

  • What are your thoughts and possible predictions on industry and/or life moving forward.
    • AI has already become built into apps, websites, and companies are already using it to help with customer service. Whether we have noticed or not, AI has already proven helpful in many areas of life. I feel there is understandable fear about careers moving forward and the need for certain ones, but I am hopeful that they are right in saying that AI is not being developed to replace individuals, but to help and assist us.
  • What role does education have on the use of AI?
    • Although it will be something new for us to learn and dive into, I think in the long run it is something that could be extremely helpful for us as teacher, and for our students. As the video explains, it can help us with lesson planning and differentiation, rubrics and grading, along with helping our students get 1:1 attention that they may not normally be able to receive.

What are your thoughts and possible predictions on industry and/or life moving forward. What role does education have on the use of AI?

It was stated that AI is not going away, so embracing it and using it in a responsible way is the challenge. We often encourage students to work together and bounce ideas off of each other. It was inspiring to hear that AI can be a sounding board for students to grow their ideas even further. Why not use the technology to help students grow their creativity even more. I can see a possible obstacle if all students input the 'same type of information', their results will all be similar. However, students that are taught to think outside the box will stand out and have deeper and more engaging results when using AI to guide their thinking not do their thinking.

Educators need significant training on the proper use of AI to best support their students. This is going to be growing and changing at a rapid pace and educators will need to keep up with all of the advances and possibilities.

Reflection

I think that right now, use of AI in the classroom faces a roadblock because teachers fear it or are skeptical of its use. I think that many teachers assume that it can only be used or is mainly used to cheat on assignments. Alternatively, I think that many teachers believe it is best  used (by them) to determine if a writing block was actually written by that particular student or by AI.
I think that AI can be used to translate lessons/assignments for our ELL students, help scaffold/differentiate lessons for students of varying academic levels, and create interactive, inquiry based lessons to help students understand new, complex concepts. I know that AI is here to stay and if we embrace it and teach students to use it responsibly, it can be hugely beneficial in the classroom.

  • What role does education have on the use of AI?
I love that AI can be used to level the playing field for our students by helping us to create lessons with built in scaffolding/differentiation. I love that it can be used to help create interactive lessons/elements to help students grasp complex content and new content. As a science teacher, I think it can be used to create labs based on real-world uses/needs and discoveries.

Part 3 Reflection

As I was watching the video and thinking about the future of teaching and learning, I can only say that I thought: no matter what "new" way or theory or ideology comes down the trail, it always goes back to the basics:  reading and writing. If students have strength in these areas they can learn anything they want to, to the highest degree. This high degree of learning in an area of study will be their "superpower" so that they will be able to manage the expansion of AI technologies in whatever industry.  As educators, encouraging reading and practicing good writing seems just as important now as the push for STEM education. Being able to understand the nature of AI, how it is used and its implications on learning are of the utmost importance if we are to create a viable classroom experience.

Part 3 Evidence

The huge roadblock to AI right now is individuals educating themselves in the technology. People have too many assumptions that are blocking their embrace of a super beneficial tool. More reading, practice, and integration of the different AI tools will support students, professionals, and nonprofessionals throughout daily life. AI will work as an assistant to administrative tasks that used to be the dull tasks that are out of the educators area of passion. Limiting teacher burnout through this time saver will positively impact the world moving forward. I also predict that ore platforms like Khanmigo will come about in the next five years that support AI education in a meaningful, all inclusive way for teachers and students.

I immediately joined Khanmigo and will explore the tools it will use to help students learn and make learning more equitable for all. AI education needs to be at the forefront of teaching as we prepare students for a work environment that undoubtedly uses AI in everyday life.

Part 3 Reflection

What are your thoughts and possible predictions on industry and/or life moving forward.
It seems there is a lot of anxiety and confusion about how AI may change life moving forward.  A lot of the fear is around the unknown and that the use of AI could potentially eliminate the need for certain jobs, and human workforce, Certainly the jobs and careers people have prepared will change.  Perhaps make some of the things in our jobs easier and allow for greater potential. AI can be a great creative partner to help industries like medicine, education, and. industry become more efficient and in turn change things for the better.

What role does education have on the use of AI?
What resonated with me most while learning about AI was the ability of AI to level the playing field for our students.  As we all know equity is a huge issue for young people, and while a lot of what happens outside of school is beyond our control leveraging AI to help us maximize growth and meet more needs while we have students under our care can be a huge game changer.  Will it be challenging, and look different?  Sure!  But, I look forward to seeing and embracing how these tools will help us better serve our students.

Part 3

AI is here to stay.   It is not a matter of banning it or keeping it.  It is a matter of finding a way to understand it and work with it.  As the conversation mentioned,  AI is not going to eliminate technology jobs.  Humans need to be smarter than ever to succeed in a workforce of AI.  They need to be a step ahead of the AI because they will be managing it.  The future skills of the workforce will continue to be critical thinking, problem solving, reading, writing, and now digitalskills. Generative AI  will not replace teachers.  It will make the job more sustainable.  From a teaching standpoint, it will allow teachers more time to do the job they were hired to do. It will help reduce time taken for writing lesson plans, correcting tests, writing reports, creating rubrics etc and give teachers back more 1:1 time with their students. As for students, it will give them more opportunities to learn. To keep things as safe as possible, it is going to be very important for schools to figure out what works best for them.  Different pieces of technology obviously will be appropriate for different levels of students.  Teachers need to be trained and need time to figure out how to incorporate generative AI into the curriculum.   Always, students need to be taught digital citizenship.   They need to know how to use and respect the technology as a tool.

What are your thoughts and possible predictions on industry and/or life moving forward. What role does education have on the use of AI

After watching this video, it is clear that AI is going to part of everything we do. As with any technology, there will always be strengths and weaknesses that will need to be sorted out. This is something that can have a significant positive impact in all aspects of our lives if we learn how to use it and how to benefit from it.

The role education has on the use of AI will be how to prepare our students to responsibly use AI to help them become more independent learners. We are preparing our students for the future. They will need to be taught the strengths and weaknesses of AI, and that this is another tool to assist them to be life long learners. Teachers will need to evolve on how they assign homework, and use AI to help in the classroom. AI closes the inequity gap, and allows for individual tutoring for all. Teachers need to embrace the fact that AI is similar to having 5 teaching assistants in the classroom helping with everything.

Reflection

I think AI is here to stay and will become more integrated in our daily lives as time passes.   We are preparing our students for the future.  We need to teach our students what AI it is, how it works, how to use it, the positives, the negatives, and help them as best as we possibly can.  Technology will be used in the future and is evolving everyday.  The way we teach will need to continue to evolve and change in order to best prepare our students and utilize any resources to help us along the way.
