ISTE Standard 5b

Design authentic learning activities that align with content area standards and use digital tools and resources to maximize active, deep learning.

Through OER, teachers are creating, sharing and improving technology-based lesson plans targeted for certain grade levels and subjects. Those who have access to authentic lesson plans and experience can share them and receive feedback from a professional network that refines it to fit the appropriate content area standards. They’re maximizing the total input effort of creating a lesson plan by allowing multiple teachers to  collaborate at once, saving the amount of time any one teacher would have to put in to create, test out, and edit a lesson plan.

This resource allows educators to collaborate on resources by building on each other’s ideas and fitting lesson plans to each individual classroom.

OER commons demonstrates the collaborator standard because it is a website where educators can collaborate on lesson plans to share resources and give feedback on the negative and positive things about each lesson plan.

5b. Design authentic learning activities that align with content area standards and use digital tools and resources to maximize active, deep learning.

I chose the "designer" standard because oercommons.org is a resource where teachers may post their own lessons that they have either created themselves or been allowed to steal and morph. This technique allows for collaboration and shared ideas. By being provided a foundation for a solid lesson, this gives teachers the possibility of altering any lesson for their specific students and classroom. Because of this amazing tool, stagnant lessons will be reduced and curriculum will become fresh! No more bored teachers!

Designer

Explore and apply instructional design principles to create innovative digital learning environments that engage and support learning.

I was able to search any type of lesson I need and other educators have come up with lessons about that specific subject area. Although the lesson I chose did not include a digital piece for the students, the teacher did use a projector. The lesson was engaging for the students and the teacher was there to provide support.

There were few activities in this lesson that allowed students to use technology. It was very creative and covered a standard while also having a fun 100th day of school activities.

I chose Collaborator as my standard because it is a resource for teachers to comment, review, and add to these lesson plans. We as teachers want new ideas and can learn from other teachers who may have experienced the same thing in their classroom. Working together to make lesson plans easier and more interesting!
