[1] Tell at least 3 differences in using Sites vs Classroom with students

Sites vs Classroom

  1. Classroom is much more interactive for students. They can complete assignments & turn them in whereas on Sites it appears that they can more so only view the information posted.
  2. Classroom is better for communication. Students can comment back and we can have conversations surrounding their work (either individually in private comments or about whole class questions in the stream). Sites does not appear to allow for that type of communication.
  3. Classroom allows students to get feedback (including comments and scores) on their grades. Sites does not appear to have that type of feedback for students.

Sites vs. Classroom

Google Sites seems more like a place to put information for students to see where Classroom allows students to participate, either by submitting work or adding comments to the stream.
Sites can be a container for information with links to other information while Classroom allows students to complete work and submit it. It also allows them access to their grades.
Sites is more of a one-way communication tool while Sites allows for two-way.

Classroom vs. Sites

1. Google Classroom is more interactive, whereas Google Sites is a destination.
2. Google Classroom is the virtual classroom, while Google Sites is a tool to assist the classroom.
3. Google Classroom allows students to turn in assignments and see their grades. Google Sites doesn't allow that.

Sites?

Well, I have never heard of Sites before so I had to do a little googling before I could reply.

It seems to me that google sites is more of a website for information sharing or directing via links.

1) Google classroom allows for submission and grading of student work, I did not see that with Sites.
2) Google classroom allows for interaction between the teacher and students and students with each other.  I did not see that with Sites.
3) Google classroom allows for emailing parents in a single click separate from students if that is the wish.  i did not see that with Sites.

Sites did not tempt me away from Google classroom.

Differences

Classroom provides a quick and easy access of materials for my students. From the first day of school, my students have been using our google classroom. I also have classrooms set up for my history class, as well as student council. A major difference that I see is the ease in which students can get to material. The material, if the classroom is well maintained, information is easily found. Another example of how sites and classroom is different is that the site is not really for learning. It is more about a place to get some information. I can interact with my students in real time in our classroom. A third example of how these two resources are different is that unless Pembroke allows access, only my students can access our classroom. I can set up a site for the world to view, or only my students.

Sites vs Classroom

I am not familiar with Sites but upon looking at other Pembroke teacher's Site accounts I have noticed the following:

1. Google Classroom seems more user friendly in creating a classroom. You are able to post assignments and discussion very easily.
2. Google Sites is one-sided. It does not give students the opportunity to comment or submit assignments. It allows teachers to post important information. Google Classroom is easily accessible for students with commenting, submitting assignments and contacting a teacher.
3. Students are able to post their work on Google Classroom easily. Teachers are able to comment on students work. This is not possible on Sites.

Google Sites vs. Classroom

Students can create and turn in work. Teachers can look at students' work as students work on it. Google Sites is more of an information platform.

See below

1. Classroom allows students to get notified about updates
2. Students can create and turn in work that teachers can watch the progress of
3. Classroom is interactive, but Sites is not

Classroom is simple, intuitive, and easy to respond back regarding students work.

I have limited experience with Sites but I know it is primarily for sharing resources and information to an audience.

1. Classroom is a simple and easy layout that makes it easy for students to find information, directions, assessments, assignments, etc. Students become familiar with Classroom very quickly.

2. I can give feedback to the students submitted work directly from Classroom, as well as assign a grade. Often students have the Classroom app on their phone and they receive notifications immediately when I've responded or posted.

3. Not only can students find all of the resources and materials that you post, but parents can easily access the Classroom and see the posts and what their child is doing or what projects/assignments they are supposed to be working on.

Classroom > Sites

I haven't utilized sites an awful lot, but it seems to be a way to share information only, rather than for teacher/student and even student/student interactions as a classroom management tool.

1.  It allows a way for students to submit work which can be graded within this platform and returned without any exchange of physical papers or documents, which sometimes simplifies things.  This also allows a way to check progress of students work on, lets say, a multi-part project and provide feedback throughout.

2. This makes use of the calendar easy, as calendar is automatically updated with assignments you put in for yourself and students.  They can easily access their google calendars and see what is upcoming that is due.  It also has the calendar right on the front page of classroom that shows upcoming assignments.  This has eliminated the need for me to use remind and even post things on the board (though I still often do).

3. This allows me to invite guardians for students so they too can access the calendar and assignments of their students without having to exchange emails  or post something additional on a site.  When I post an assignment, pretty much everything I need to do is done automatically through classroom, where as it would require multiple steps otherwise.
