I really liked this workshop! The hands on activities were very helpful to conceptualize the different theories they were talking about. I think that some of the stations were a little too long, but besides that it was very successful.

I believe the strategies and tactics given will be very relevant to my future classroom because they discussed the importance of having a relationship with your students. Without having a relationship and understanding each student's individual differences, it will be difficult as a teacher to help them progress in their academics. This webinar is also very relevant to the discussions I have been having in another class this semester. It is interesting to me to see the overlap of ideas in different courses and how important one concept is to various aspects of education. I want to use the strategies as a way for me to be an ally for my students and colleagues. I never thought of the term as being an ally but after participating this webinar, it is now how I will see my role in my future school.

I really enjoy using Clips and could see both my students and I using it in my future classroom. With the feature that allows text to be added from voices, I could help ELL students be able to visualize the words that are being said. For students with learning disabilities, I could make a video explaining a concept with video and audio so they could watch multiple times on their own. This would also be a great tool for the expression aspect of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Students can use multiple features on this app to express their knowledge of a particular subject.

Summary

In the workshop we created a presentation about ourself that we would show to our students and parents at the beginning of the school year.  I really liked doing this idea, especially for 1st year teachers.   All of the apps have a lot of different functions, so they could be used for a lot of different projects and presentations.  Students could use them individually or in groups to make a presentation with any subject.   Spark Video could be very useful to make engaging videos to show your students.  Spark Post could be useful to create handouts and fliers for students to take home.

Using Voice Recorder Pro in the Classroom

During this workshop, I learned how to use Voice Recorder Pro paired with Paper By 53. When using Voice Recorder Pro, I would only use it with upper elementary due to its more complex set up. Students can use the app to record a number of things such as: summaries of a book, what the learned in a social studies question, what questions they still have about a lesson, the possibilities are endless!

I think that I can use webinars in my future teaching career to build my professional development. I personally like to attend webinars more than in person workshops because I can sit at home in my pajamas and build on to my knowledge. I enjoyed this webinar because it connected with things that I am working on in my EDS- Schools in American Cultures Class. Race and Racism is something that needs to be talked about within school settings. I think that this webinar did a fantastic job of showing us teachers how we can get those conversations started within our school. I would recommend this webinar to any colleague who is interested in the topic.

Monica had talked about how to use padlet and neared and other really cool apps in the everyday classroom. I had found out that padlet was a really easy way to get a poll for a class room. another way to use it was as a bellringer or exit ticket. By doing this you make sure that students on comprehending the content at hand. Nearpod she said cost money, thats was my first red flag. After watching and listen I had almost considered to pay for NearPod. Its a great way to integrate technology as well and keeping your students engaged. I think most teacher can easily integrate technology into the classroom the hard part is keeping a student on task while integrating.

Using FlipGrid in the classroom will definitely enhance the community experience of teaching. There are a multitude of ways to incorporate these short video projects to allow students to communicate with one another, the teacher, and even families. FlipGrid also gets kids engaged in the community, the outside of the classroom, and show their passions. I can already think of several citizenship projects to do for a government class and how to do virtual tours of historical places.

5 apps for a flipped classroom

I think this is very relevant especially for me as a special ed teacher. I can make videos for my students to use at home when they are working on homework at home. They could even use them on an ipad at school to review or help them with their school work. I can make the videos fun by using sock puppets and chatterpix. I can also suggest that other teachers use them to help their students on IEPs. We could also write them into IEPs, like that students will have access to videos of lessons. And those videos can be used for multiple years.

Reflection of Seminar

The seminar was kind of a bust. However, I will definitely use what I observed during the workshop in my future classroom. At the workshop, there were technical difficulties so bad that we could not continue with what we had planned. I got to watch a seasoned teacher handle that kind of situation, and I will use what I saw almost exactly they way I saw it, since I believe it was handled near perfectly. When the wi-fi wasn't working, the presenter had us first try a bunch of different things on the iPad's that could fix it, then she tried the iPad's you can check out from the JRCOE, then she went through the entire project with examples and oral explanation. Even though she couldn't do what she had planned, I think she was able to work on the spot really well. That is definitely something I could, and will, use in the future.

Flipgrid in My Future Classroom

As a future educator, I am about to enter into a world of applying technology in my teaching. Children love technology, and if implemented correctly, technological tools, can enhance student learning. With tools like Flipgrid, I have the chance to make learning and sharing ideas fun! Using the strategies that I wrote about in the summary portion, I have many different fun ideas of ways to directly implement this app into my own classroom one day.

I could see myself using webinars as a future teacher for personal development. The one I did allowed the participants to answer polls, and they also carved out a time to answer questions that people had. It creates an interesting environment. A webinar would be a great way to learn new things without having the time constraint of driving to an actual place to learn about different subjects. I really enjoyed learning about the action plan to deal with Hate and Bias. It is a concept that will be important in a future classroom. I will make sure to create a plan to ensure my students get to learn in a safe environment.
