Seesaw app

A great tool for connecting parents with the classroom is the Seesaw app. The teacher creates a "class" where each student and their parent(s) can view and comment on their student's work. When registered, parents will receive an email every time the student's work is submitted. The parent then can view and ask questions or make comments to the teacher and/or student. teachers and students can upload assessments, text docs, videos, audio recordings, and drawings.
Seesaw is accessible on desktops, tablets, and smart phones. It is secure, as only those included in the "classroom" can access that particular class. The creator of the "classroom", usually the teacher, determines who is in the group.

Resource Collaboration

This digital resource that was examined was Newsela. This website allows for teachers to find different articles, and these articles will adjust the reading level, depending on the student. This way, all students can read and discuss the same article, but it will be written in their reading level. There are also questions and writing prompts that align with common core standards that can be used as well.
Newsela can be accessed on any web browser is and is free for all. Teachers and students will need an account if they wish to assign current articles and answer the questions online; however, the articles can be printed off.

Pear Deck

Pear deck is an interactive PowerPoint tool from Google. The interactive PowerPoint allows for teachers and students to use it in multiple ways. One thing that teachers especially love about it is that it is a way to assess students. Students also love it because its creative and doesn't feel like a traditional assessment. We thought that Pear Deck was a very effective tool to use. We scored it a 14/18 on the Triple E Evaluation.

Resource Collaboration

1. My team and I discovered Doodlecast Pro. This is a great app that allows students to tap into their creativity and take charge of their learning, by creating podcasts. They can share their podcasts with the class as if they are teaching each other. This is a free app that allows them to be active in the classroom. Can be one-on-one or group work.

2. Unfortunately, Doodlecast Pro is only available on an iPad and students will need to be connected to wifi in order to use this app. The operating system to run this app is IOS.

This is an extension that is accessible on all devices. It is mostly used with google docs, but can also be used with Microsoft. This allows student to collaborate inactively with other students and the topic that is being learned. My group ranked this app as a 13/18 on the triple e score. It scores high on the engagement.

Doodle Cast

I would like to be able to use Doodle Cast in my classroom. I want my students to be able to have many options to express their creativity in some of their assignments. Doodle Cast allows them to create their own movie however they want. They can then share their movies with the class as if they are teaching each other. This application is completely free. The students can work together or individually with an IPad. It is only available on an IPad though.

3. It is free on the app store but has in-app purchases.

ChatterPix

The app that I chose to use in my classroom is ChatterPix. I chose this because I'm hoping that allowing students to use a different "face" will help them overcome their fears of speaking in a new language. If they are able to mask the fact that it is them speaking, they might be more inclined to speak more without fear of judgement. It can also be used in a variety of different lessons!

ChatterPix is an app that is available on Apple, Android, and Google devices. In Apple, the app is compatible with iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. The app requires iOS 8.0 or later, meaning that it should be accessible to students even if they have a later model phone or device. The app does not require wifi. It can be used by students individually or even in groups.  All the app requires to work is a photo and the accompanying voice recording.

Puppet Pals

Puppet Pals is a free app with in-app purchases. It can be used in the elementary classroom for educational purposes and can used to tell stories. You can use the app on an iPad or iPhone. This would be a good app to have if the classroom is a 1:1 school. Students can use the app out of school to create their story. The only requirement for this resource is that you have an iPad or iPhone.

Facebook

A new digital resource that we could use in the classroom is Facebook. It is a free app that is available to all software systems. There is no memory or RAm requirements unless the user wants to play games or download files through Facebook. This could be a distraction in the class, but it also could made to it. It may also be blocked by school filter. You could create a certain group for each class you have so everyone can collaborate together on the page.
