Paraphrasing Implementation and Coaching Feedback

Paraphrasing was very unique this year compared to last year as I had to 'adopt' my co-workers class for a week to model the strategy (my co-worker was out due to family emergency). Therefore, I modeled with all grade levels and it went very well according to my coach. Students participated when it was their turn to paraphrase and we openly discussed what we could say instead so it would match the UCANMOP criteria. I ensured my co-workers' class was ready to practice before releasing them back to their classroom with the substitute. Practice this year was similar to last year regarding not having enough time due to FSA testing. We had to delay giving the post-test until after all testing was complete unlike last year, which I think may have affected my results. Though my results were not terrible, they might have been better had I offered more practice with the strategy. Students did understand the strategy very quickly but struggled finding the right words to replace the phrases from the text (vocabulary). Paired practice was worse this year than last as students really didn't want to pair up anymore after FSA writing. They were especially burnt out after regular FSA testing, where they tested four days in a row. Despite all this, the students did better than I expected on this strategy and I anticipate students doing well next year now that I have two years under my belt.

Bonnie was very helpful in telling me that I did everything right with modeling and told me to keep it up for next year.
