Part 2 response

The videos provide a great understanding for both what will be taught as well as what has been taught.  This is helpful for me to help understand the progression that kids have been through.  As a technology integration coach it can help to provide me with context as I work with a teacher to develop additional support materials or even code math-related games using tools like Canva code.  The program seems to do a great job of providing the necessary info for any current unit of study as well as what students should have done prior and will be doing in the future. This would even allow me to have a better idea for differentiation materials for both higher and lower math students who need more support or a challenge.

Part 2

Watching both the learning narrative video and the learning progressions videos are very helpful to teachers when planning a new unit. The learning narrative video introduces what students will be learning in the unit. The videos provide background information about what skills they have learned in kindergarten, provide insight on the skills being taught, ideas of possible student misconceptions, provide tips on how to support students' understanding, and provide context to how these skills will prepare students for future learning. These videos will aid in preparing the teacher in implementing engaging and supportive lessons.

Task 2 Evidence

The learning narrative video is so helpful to watch before beginning a unit. It really shows you what will be emphasized in the unit, reviews key vocabulary that will be used, and gives you ideas of what to look out for in the unit like potential student misconceptions or areas of struggle. The learning progression video is helpful to know what skills students should be familiar with before beginning as well as where they are going in the following grade. If students are struggling with a particular skill going back to the previous grades skill may be helpful and the progression video lays that out for you.

Task 2

The learning narrative video was helpful to watch when planning a new unit because it explained the unit as a whole. It explained exactly what the students will be learning and what tools they will be using during the unit. For example Unit 1 the students will be exploring math tools, the ways they use numbers every day, sharing math ideas with partner, recognize quantities, name groups to up to 4 objects without counting,  answer are there enough questions, count groups upto 10 objects and answer how many do I see questions. The Progression video was helpful. It was similar to the learning narrative video, it just went into a little more detail as you progress through the unit.

Task 2

Both sections are helpful for teachers as they prepare to teach the unit.  The progression video shows how the unit develops and where it will go down the line.  The Narrative does a good job helping me to fine tune the unit to meet the needs of my students.  It showed us where to find the resources that support students who are challenged with the program.

Task 2

The learning narrative video gives an overview of the unit and which strategies will be helpful for students throughout. The learning progression video details the skills students were previously taught and how their skills will progress over time. Both are helpful and necessary before beginning each unit. It is particular helpful to see how students were introduced to our current units.

Evidence 2

The narrative video gives a big idea.  It will allow me to practice strategies prior to the lesson.  The progression allows me to see where the students left off in prior lessons to make sure I review prior to the lesson and bridge any gaps that could interfere with the lesson.

Task 2

Watching the learning narrative video and progressions video allows for me to understand where students need to be at the end of the unit which helps me understand why each lesson is an important part of the end goal. The learning narrative also helps me understand the math vocabulary and language that we should use to keep consistency.

Learning Narrative and Progression Videos

Task 2

The Learning Narrative and Progression videos give an overview of the unit objectives, models and representations, vocabulary, important vocabulary, possible student errors and misconceptions, and tips that might be used to help support student understanding. It is helpful for teachers to watch before beginning a unit to quickly and efficiently understand what is needed to support students with the unit content. Additionally, the progression video shows what prior knowledge is needed and where the content will go in the future which is helpful.

Explain how watching both the learning narrative video and learning progressions video help when planning to begin a new unit?

Part 2

Watching the Learning Narrative Video and the Learning Progressions video really  helps with planning the unit by knowing what the goals for the students are for the whole unit.  It gives you an insight of how the students will achieve the goals and which strategies could  be used throughout the unit.   It tells you the skills  the students begin with mastering  and what they are working toward achieving by the end of the unit. I like that the videos give concrete examples and tell what skills the students SHOULD have coming to each grade level, as well as what they will be expected to do in the next grade level. These videos are great for setting purpose for both the unit as a whole and for each lesson.

Narrative & Learning Progression Videos

The narrative videos at the beginning of each unit will be essential to having a very clear understanding of our goals and how we can tie together concepts, strategies and activities students gained from Kindergarten.  I love the idea that we will have the resources in these progression videos to help grow our students prior learning successfully from K to 1 and also set them up for success in Grade 2.

The following were my takeaways from the video.

These videos were helpful by going over what the precursor skills are, what the students will be learning in the lesson and laying out what these skills will help with In the future Grades. It also lays out what type of problems and skills the students will be working on.
