Learning Narrative Video & Learning Progressions Video

Watching both the Learning Narrative Video and the Learning Progressions Video is important and will provide teachers with important information before instruction. The Learning Narrative Video provides information about what the upcoming unit content looks like and the possible strategies students may be using. The Learning Progressions Video offers teachers an understanding of what was taught prior to the unit and where the unit falls in the context of what that grade level will be learning in future units.

Part 2 Evidence

I find these videos to be helpful because they are clear and concise about the goals of the unit.  They are only a few minutes long but take you through the progressions of what will be taught first, then explained what comes next and why.  I like them because with this being a new curriculum, it's helpful to know where we want to be at the end of the unit and it can be time consuming to read through all of the provided materials, especially when trying to learn something new.  These short videos gave me a great idea of where were starting and where we're going so I can start to pre-teach and add skill that are coming up into things like morning message and morning meeting as well.

Both are used.

The narrative video focuses on the big idea and objectives. The learning progression discussed what prior knowledge is needed and what will be addressed in future units. It showed models and representations used in the unit.

Scope of units

The learning narrative videos give an overview of the unit objectives, models and representations, possible student errors and misconceptions, and tips that might be used to help support student understanding. It is helpful for teachers to watch before beginning a unit to quickly and efficiently understand what is needed to support students with the unit content. Additionally, the progression video shows what prior knowledge is needed and where the content will go in the future which is helpful scope.

Helpful Videos

Watching both the learning progression video and the learning narrative videos prior to beginning a unit are extremely beneficial.  I love to see how the unit progresses and how the ideas connect with one another in the narrative video.  The videos also include vocabulary and strategies that student's will develop and build upon throughout the unit.

Evidence

By watching the Learning Narrative Video and the Learning Progressions video it will help with planning the unit by knowing what the goals for the students are for the whole unit.  It gives you an insight of how the students will achieve the goals and which strategies could  be used throughout the unit.   It tells you the skills  the students begin with mastering  and what they are working toward achieving by the end of the unit.
