Meeting High Quality PD Indicators in Virtual SIM Workshops

I found this session to be very informative because it explored six of the High Quality PD Observation Checklist indicators and how what they look/sound like in a virtual professional development session. The examples, suggestions, and resources will be very helpful in planning future PD sessions.

SIM Online Assets for PDers

What a great session to review the differences between Stratenotes, Strateworks, StratePubs, StrateGram, and StrateDirectory. : )  Also, it was so helpful to review what is new and to see the wealth of resources available to PDers.

Keynote speaker

I enjoyed the keynote session and learning about education in Finland. It was interesting to hear the comparison with US schools and his perspective: focus on collaboration instead of competition, invest in equity and maintain the status of the teaching profession.

Finland Keynote Speaker

I loved the Keynote Speaker and his Myth Busters. His comparisons of how much teaching occurs in Finland as opposed to the US was interesting. The salary comparison was also thought provoking in many ways. It would appear low 35,000-60,000 but as he explained free Health Care and other built in Government subsidies allow for 35,000 to go a long way.

Using Literacy Leadership Teams as a Driving Force During Times of Change. Presenters: Amber Gilliam Megan Lucas

I loved how a sustainable structure was put in place in this school. How the goal to improve student writing was cross curricular, and how the entire staff was either directly or indirectly involved. There was meaningful collaboration and communication in setting attainable goals, communicating these goals, using measurable targets, and setting up cycles of monitoring of success towards the goal and revising steps to attainment when needed. I loved how the staff used the SIM Paragraph Writing Strategy to initially work with students to give them the writing skills they needed to be able to demonstrate/make the writing improvements the team were looking for. I loved the use of student data from baseline writing samples to establish individual student goals for improvement. Student ownership and buy in is so very important.

Re-Imagining SIM: These Tools Stand the Test of Time! - Barrier, Tralli

This session provided the opportunity to review SIM Overview Brochure, HLP Crosswalks, and Nearpod SIM Overview through the lens of application at campus or district level to promote the implementation of valuable SIM strategies and routines to maximize student performance. This workshop provided the opportunity for us, as participants, to thoroughly analyze the supporting documents/resources and discuss how to implement them as tools in communicating with administrators, teachers, stakeholders to share how they enhance student learning while "fitting" into the practices currently embraced.

2021 SIMposium: Meeting High-Quality PD Indicators in Virtual SIM Workshops - Medici, Noonan

Excellent presentation of what meeting high-quality PD indicators "look like/sound like" with a strong focus on modeling and virtual tools for use in the demonstration of indicators in effectively providing professional development. I especially appreciated the collaborative process whereby participants shared tools and experiences. Thank you,

SIM Online Assets for Professional Developers - Jocelyn Washburn (Video) SIM Online Assets Webquest

It was fabulous to be provided guidance regarding how to access the valuable tools and resources available to support us in our work. The time and talent it required toward making the resources and tools organized and more readily accessible support the work I (we) perform and will make accessing these more readily available for immediate support and implementation.

Thank you.

Virtual Coaching Session

I really enjoyed the Virtual Coaching session; very informative and educational, inclusive of all Best Practices with evidenced-based practices that will be immediately be implemented. This session is inclusive of all components of coaching in a "reality-based" (meaning taking into consideration the varying factors impacting effective coaching) setting while providing tools supporting virtual coaching. Thank you.

So far, I have completed four breakout sessions and the key note- I have several others that I will be doing before the Mar. 17 finale!

The Keynote was very interesting- we have all heard heard about the educational system in Finland- it was truly informative to see it in action and get Dr. Malinen's insight.
the Word Mapping session was a great refresher for those of us who received instruction in this strategy several years ago. I got some great ideas and took lots of notes!
The other sessions have also been very informative. Attending virtually has its challenges, but at least we are able to gain valuable knowledge!
