Vocabulary LINCing Routine PD

I received professional development for the Vocabulary LINCing routine during the co-teaching summer conference of July 2015. Helen Barrier provided the training, and I remember thinking what a neat strategy to implement when working with my students whom are several grade-levels below reading level. I also remember that the strategy made perfect sense to me as I often make auditory and visual connections with important information that I need to remember as well.

Judith Fontana provided professional development on the LINCING Routine on 8/22/17 at 8:00 am at Orchard View Elementary

Judith shared a slide presentation to provide us with research and data supporting the vocabulary routine. We had the opportunity to participate in a mock lesson as Judith modeled for us how a LINCing lesson would run in the classroom. We got to practice creating our own LINC tables for words that we brought. I'm looking forward to implementing this routine into my small groups.

Completed this training at a previous co-teaching conference

I can see this technique being useful in introducing new vocabulary to students.  Vocabulary is essential.  This would offer a twist on learning vocabulary.

I completed the professional development at the VDOE Excellence in Co-Teaching Demonstration Site Initiative Summer Institute on July 31, 2015.  I immediately recognized the benefit of this routine in teaching vocabulary to students, and I have been using it ever since the training.

July 5, 2017, I completed the training. I look forward to adding this easy strategy to my vocabulary instruction.

July 5, 2017, I completed the training for The Vocabulary LINCing Routine. I already use robust vocabulary instruction in my classroom, but it was great to have a graphic organizer that will help students tie connections with vocabulary words that they find meaningful. The training was easy to digest and was something I will definitely implement in my classroom this year.

Date of participation of initial professional development: July 19, 2017 at Excellence in Co-Teaching Academy in Glen Allen, Virginia

The Vocabulary LINCing Routine is an excellent strategy to utilize in the classroom with all student learners.  Through a series of steps, the student will list the word, list a reminding word, write a definition, write a simple story including key words in the definition, and illustrate a picture that will assist him/her with LINCing a variety of different items to the word itself.  It appears to be a successful strategy to assist student learners with expanding their vocabulary knowledge.  I am looking forward to teaching this strategy to my students and professional colleagues this upcoming 2017-2018 school year and to monitor the associated data with vocabulary usage.
