The Framing Routine

I completed the Framing Routine professional development on August 24, 2017.  My co-teacher and I made a sample Frame for Author's Purpose. We plan on using the Framing Routine first by modeling it with our students as a review for context clues within the next two weeks.  We will implement it using the Author's Purpose Frame we created during our professional development.  The students we typically work with need extra support to organize and process new information.  Some of our students need visuals to understand content. The Framing Routine will help the students with organization and processing.

Framing Routine

I completed the Framing Routine professional development during the summer session on July 31, 2015.  My co-teacher and I made a sample Frame using Operations with Signed Numbers showing how to simplify expressions with various operations.  I look forward to earning this badge and incorporating the Framing Routine into our lessons.  The students we typically work with need extra support to organize and process new information.  The Framing Routine will help the students with this organization and processing.

Framing Date and Reflection

I completed the Framing Routine introduction during the summer session on July 31, 2015.  We made a sample Frame using Operations with Signed Numbers showing how to simplify expressions with various operations.  This routine will be useful in organizing information in a new way for students.  We teach Algebra parts A and B, and we notice our students often benefit from new and creative ways to organize the material.

Framing PD date and reflection

After receiving the personal development in the FRAMing Routine on Auguse 19, 2005 by Ben Tickle, I began using it immediately in my English 8 classroom, and I have done so regularly since that date.  Framing is an excellent method to utilize to take notes. It also aids students at capturing the main ideas of the notes instead of them trying to write down everything being covered.
Examples of topics on which I have used FRAMing are elements of fiction, descriptive language, what makes a good paragraph, and types of conflict to name a few.

Framing is a regular part of my instruction, and I have had students return from college telling me they used FRAMES to take notes in their classes, and it has benefitted them greatly.

A challenge I faced early on when implementing FRAMing into my classroom was to get the students to see its importance and its benefits. Another challenge was trying to get students to  streamline their notes, copying the necessary and not absolutely everything.  Doing so has aided them in being able to determine the main idea and summarize certain topics more easily.

Prior to receiving training in Paragraph and Theme Writing, I also used a modified version of the FRAME to aid students in organizing their writings.

June 29, 2017 was my training with T/TAC. It was used for math PD. I have seen ways to use it in my resource class and Reading class.

Participated in the Framing Routine professional development during the Excellence in Co-teaching Academy on July 19th.

I plan to use the Framing Routine in my classroom to assist with note-taking during Science and also help with concepts in Math.  I think my students will benefit from the visual and from notes being shortened.  This seems like it will be a very helpful tool!

Participated at co-teaching conference July 19,2017

I can see this being used to review a concept or as a help in teaching a new concept.  I think this is a very good graphic organizer to use with all learners.
