Will speaking their Snapchat-language encourage more interaction with the book, content, or topic? Why? Why not?

FOR SURE

I think that this meets the kids where they are at and will help them engage more in lessons!

BookSnaps used in moderation will help students focus on important ideas.

This would be easy to integrate into my Google Classroom.

I believe it will encourage interaction but strict guidelines to still use reading vocabulary. I think is will because students can be creative and add personality to their book-snaps. In the guidelines, I would put "you can use snap-chat language but don't forget to use these key words. "

I believe audio and visual makes the ready more interesting and encourage reading. Audio/visuals also help with reading and comprehension.

Through visual and audio reading, students are able to grasp context better. Audio-visual books spark students interest.

Student engagement

As a mother of a teenager, using Snapchat as a tool to get students engaged with literature is genius!  This is a great way for students to dive into literature and interact with the text!!!!  It is also super easy for teachers to plan for and immediately be able to see if their student's master the skills or still need more help.  I can't wait to use this new tool when I am making instructional videos for teachers this week!

Why I think this would be a great idea!

I think that giving the students a way to communicate using an app they are already like to use would encourage more interaction with the book because then they will be looking for ways to get to create a booksnap while reading.

Yes, with being careful

I think it would be great to use as an option for students who are very passionate about Tik Tok and Snapchat in the older grades. I wouldn't assign it as a snap chat for all students, as some parent in 5th grade may not want their child using those platforms. There are other great ways to have students using book snaps though that I think parents would find very exciting for students. I think giving students the option to do book snaps through snapchat is a great way to reach students who may not have been as passionate to read before.

Speaking their language would encourage learning

Making connections and building that relationship with your learners is key to a successful classroom environment of learning.  Speaking their language whatever that might be for that age, such as Baby Shark, Paw Patrol, TikTok, Snapchat, Fort Nite, etc. create opportunities of learning more about them and what motivates their learning.

Thoughts

Yes, I think speaking their snapchat-language will help encourage more interaction with books because it gives another element to reading a book. So students will be more motivated to read so that they can create a snapbook and tell you more about what they are reading. This also makes students be more thoughtful and engaged in their reading so that they are able to create a snapbook about the book they are reading.

Thoughts...

This is a pretty cool thing to do with older kids. I am not sure my 3rd graders would know how to do this, but they surprise me every day.

Excited

I love book snaps! It is a great visual with audio and connects with this generation of students. I teach first grade though so I don't know if its appropriate for that young but I love it for the older grades.

I believe it could encourage it with the right use of the language.

I believe using their Snapchat-language could encourage more if used appropriately. As long as it is being use correctly and when it is useful, but over using it or where it doesn't help might hinder their learning. Everything is useful in the appropriate context.
