As a white woman, I benefit from racial privilege, even though coming from a low socioeconomic background has brought its own challenges. Many curriculum materials reflect white experiences but don’t always represent the struggles of lower-income or marginalized communities. To make my classroom more equitable, I can include diverse perspectives and ensure all students feel seen and valued. I can also use my position to advocate for resources and create an environment where conversations about inequality are open and respectful.
