Pros and Cons

Google Forms:
Google Forms is an application in Google Workspace. It is a good option for both formative and summative assessments. It has a variety of different question formats that allow for quick comprehension checks or documentation of concrete projects. It is easy to share and allows teachers and students the option to receive immediate feedback. It does have some drawbacks: design customization is limited, it is not as easy to use on smartphones when compared to desktop computers, and an internet is required for use.

Google Slides:
Google Slides is another application in Google Workspace. It also easily shared and a good option for formative assessments. The teacher can share a link that forces the student to make a copy upon opening it. The student can then edit the slide to complete the assessment and submit their work in Google Classroom. This is a great option for drag-and-drop activities, such as sorting, some word study activities, and graphic organizer manipulation. One con for this application is that it is not as easy to use on a smartphone or tablet if the student must type. Another is that the internet is needed to access this application. It also has a smaller design template bank than Microsoft PowerPoint, although it does seem to be growing constantly.

Flipgrid:
Flipgrid is a good way to communicate work through audio or video response. This is a great alternative to written work, especially for students who have difficulty producing or comprehending written work. It allows students to take multiple recordings and edit them before submitting. One downside is that an internet connection is required. Another is that some parents may not feel comfortable with their child’s face or voice being recorded, so offering another way to show competency in a skill may be required. The extra features (GIFs, filters, etc.) may be distracting, but these are easily disabled.

Pros/Cons

Google Forms is a tool I like to use as a type of an assessment tool. This tool is a create your own form with different types of questions such as: multiple choice, short answer, long answer, multiple answers, grid answers, ect..

Pros for Google Forms is that if you put the correct answers in the form it will grade it for you. Another pro is you can lock the student’s chromebooks so they can’t research answers. One last pro is the student’s don’t have to be present in class to take it.

Con for Google forms is that some pictures can’t become big enough for the answers. So, then you have to zoom in to see the choices. There is a little bit of a learning curve to setting it up the way you want it to look.

The next tool I like is Quizlet.com. This website is super neat and easy to use. This website allows for students to study flashcards with terms on the flashcards.

A few pros for this website is that it has built in flashcards, learn, and spelling for the flashcards. It has built in games to study the terms or definitions. My favorite part about this website is the live version. This allows students to compete in teams or individually. We typically compete in teams and make it a relay race. The students absolutely love it.

A con that I have about this website is that it won’t let the students sign up or allow for teachers to have a class code like other websites. It asks for parents emails which I understand is a security issue.

My last tool I like is Flipgrid. Flipgrid is a video or audio website for students to record their answers. Students can respond to other videos with a written message or with a video message.

Pro for Flipgrid.com is this allows those students who are shy to be more themselves and answer questions confidently. You can have the students respond to other videos to really show their understanding of the topic.

A con for Flipgrid is that this can be distracting for students. It may take a little longer to record because the students might not like their video and keep recording.

PROS AND CONS

EdPuzzle is a free assessment-centered tool that allows teachers and students to create interactive online videos by embedding either open-ended or multiple-choice questions, audio notes, audio tracks, or comments on a video.

Pros: Edpuzzle is available on the app store and online, making it easily accessible to students in whatever their situation is, Videos can be taken from YouTube or directly uploaded, Open-ended questions or notes can be put into the videos at any point, Students’ viewing of the video can also be tracked

Cons: Students might not be actually be watching and comprehending the video, Must have internet access – could cause problems for some students, Does not give the option for group video access – just individual

Quizziz is an online assessment tool that allows teachers and students to create and use one another's quizzes. After providing students with a unique access code, a quiz can be presented live as a timed competition or used for homework with a specific deadline.

PROS:
It is Free, the flexibility of Quizizz is the best feature of this gaming platform. Any teacher can use it for any content area that they teach, Quizizz has a teacher resource section that includes a 1-page get started guide, training presentation, and help center, you do not have to project the question on a board or screen. Each student has access to their own question and answers gameplay, Teachers can view student reports and view what questions were answers correctly or incorrectly in order to inform instruction or address learning gaps, which can be easy added to Google Classroom.

ConsThere is a limit to the types of questions you can ask. It is perfect for facts and recall, but not conducive for more elaborate questioning, When working with technology it is always important to consider the access that schools and individual students have to computers, ipads, or phones. This platform could be a problem when access is limited.

Kahoot: This is a game-based learning platform that makes it easy to create, play, and share learning games or trivia quizzes in minutes. This tool makes the learning experience more enjoyable for the students. Students can even create their own “kahoots” to share with classmates, creating an interactive experience. Students can plan the assessment games by themselves or as a team, and teachers can add multiple choice or true/false questions to the games. The games are timed and scored, with point scales set up by the teacher.

Pros:
Overall this is a great tool to use in education. Children love it, teachers love how easy it is to use, and it keeps the attention of everyone in the room.
Cons:
Some of the pre-made quizzes contain errors and wrong answers. Teachers need to check these first, which is time-consuming.

Assessment Tools

1. https://kahoot.com/
Kahoot! is an online tool where students/teachers can create quizzes and play with the class/groups as a game. This is a formative assessment tool to determine who understands the material. A few pros and cons of the tool would be:
Pros- Fun, engaging, and interactive. Allows for the students to have fun and relax while being competitive with each other in a game form while still being content related. Allows students to know if they need to study or work harder.
Cons- Teachers may not be able to see every students' answer, so it might be hard to see who needs additional help. It's hard (and not as fun) to have a 'quick' game of Kahoot!, so be prepared. Requires students to have a 1-to-1 technology with internet access.

2. https://prezi.com/
Think PowerPoint, but better. Whenever someone needs to present, Prezi is a fantastic alternative to PowerPoint. This would be an example of a summative assessment, as typically the student is presenting to the class. Some Pros and Cons include:
Pros: It brings a fun alternative to PowerPoint, mixing it up from boring slide after slide to interesting transitions and animations. Very interactive with a ton of easily accessible embedding options.
Cons: Can be a little bit overwhelming at first, and definitely can be tricky to get it to do what you want it to do.

3. https://flipgrid.com/
Especially with classes taking a turn to online, this tool allows for a basic face-to-face interaction in some capacity by allowing students/teachers to record responses. This tool can be used either as a formative or summative assessment. It can be graded for quality, or as student feedback to gauge their general understanding.
Pros: Allows for recorded discussion like posts that others can interact with.
Cons: Can't really react with each other in a speedy manner, and I'm not sure if you can respond to a classmates response with your own video.

Pros and Cons

https://www.google.com/forms
Google forms is a good way for students to quickly and easily take quizzes and receive immediate feedback. This can be a good formative assessment as there can be a pretest and then everyday students can try again on a few of the questions. This quiz can then be used again at the end as a summative assessment. While there are all of these advantages, this may not be the best way to quiz all of the students as some of them may do better on paper and may do better with a different way to study.
flipgrid.com
Flipgrid would be a good way to assess the students in a formative stage. The flipgrid assignment could be used as a way for students to explain what they are thinking about a certain topic and idea without having to put it down in words. This can be better for different students as they may think about things in different ways and can show their knowledge in different ways.
Kahoot.it
This is a fun and engaging way to assess students' knowledge in the middle of a unit. When using Kahoot, it is easy to see what most of the class is doing well on and what they need help with but unless they use their names as their usernames, it can be hard to determine who exactly needs help with what.

pro/con

1. Kahoot (Formative assessments)Pros: Kahoot is great for student engagement. The teacher can pace the activity as is fit as well as check for understanding and provide clarification throughout. It is a fun, competitive, and engaging activity. Cons: It is very informal. Students can become very rowdy with the competitive aspect as well as the music. Students don't always try very hard because it is not taken for a grade.
 2. Google DocsGoogle Docs and other google drive resources are good for formative assessments.  It is a web-based tool that is free to use and can connect easily to students' and teachers' google drives.  Along with the ability to make real-time comments on a document as it is being written.Pros:  Free, Easy to use, connectivity, commenting as the student is editing.Cons:  Limited space in Google Drives
3. Flipgrid Summary: This is a website where student can create a video response to a prompt, often a video created by the teacher.  This can be used as a formative assessment throughout a unit, or a part of a summative assessment at the end of the unit.  Pros: More personal than a paper or text submission, Promotes speaking skills, Allows for new ways to show informationCons: Students have to learn to use the site, Some students may not feel comfortable using it, Requires more technology than other assessment methods

Pros and Cons

https://info.flipgrid.com/
This resource would allow for formative assessments. The students can submit a brief reflection of their understanding of material and the teachers can use these reflections to assess their understanding so far in the lesson. Pros of this assessment is that the students can go back and review their reflection later in the lesson to assess how their learning has changed, but a con may be that the reflection is not in writing so they cannot copy and paste that reflection if they may need it in the future.

https://nearpod.com/
This resource allows for formative assessments. Teachers can create games, puzzles, and drawing boards for students to submit and/or study the material they have been learning. A pro is that this resource gives immediate feedback to the students and the teachers. A con may be that students have to create an account to be able to use it. It is free, but it may take time to create an account.

Google forms can be a great resource for summative and formative assessments. Teachers can create short quizzes with images and videos to access students ongoing learning, and they can also create larger exams using this tool. A pro is that this source provides immediate feedback to students and is sent straight to the teacher once submitted. A con is that students may get tired of using this source for exams as there is only so much creativity teachers can use with it.

Tools for Assessment Pros & Cons

Google Slides: Google slides is a tool within google applications that helps you to make PowerPoint presentations that are easy to share and present with others. In my kindergarten classroom, google slides is used daily to present material to the students in a simple and straight forward way. It allows me to place all of the material in one place, so it is easily assessable for the teacher, students and families. In particular, I use google slides to make many assessments for my students to complete virtually and now also in-person. Creating these assessments within the google apps allows me to easily embed them into my lessons on Canvas as well as helps me to have all the information accessible in on place when completing assessments with students rather than having multiple papers to keep track of. Google slides also allows you to make copies of the slides and entire presentation which is helpful when assessing students.
Pros: Very assessable in multiple different platforms and can be created using many different options to create when using this tool. I like that you can embed pictures, videos, charts and links into the slides for easy access to outside resources.
Cons: Many of my kindergarten students are too young to try to navigate this tool independently. In many different instances, students got frustrated because they could not figure out alone, so an adult is needed to supervise and provide assistance when using google slides in my classroom.

Kahoot!:
Kahoot! is a great and engaging assessment tool that allows teachers to create or search for virtual tests and quizzes to assess for student understanding. Kahoot! can easily be accessed on many different platforms including iOS, PC and Android. When the teacher is ready to test their students, they simply have to display a QR code or passcode for all students to gain access to the assessment. This assessment is also paced for the entire class. The student cannot go onto the next question until all participates have submitted their answer for the previous question. When they get to the end, the highest score can be displayed for all to see or can be hidden. This is a fun and engaging way to get all students assessed.
Pros: Students are engaged
Cons: Some students do not take this seriously and try to be the first one to answer to see their name displayed on the board. This can cause issues with their final results and their assessment would then not be accurate of their learning and knowledge.

Canvas Quiz:
The canvas quiz feature allows you to create an assessment virtually. You can create a quick and simple assessment to learn students understanding after a daily lesson or you can create an elaborate final test or exam that assesses students’ knowledge of many topics. You can include many features within Canvas quizzes, multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, essay. I also like how you can insert pictures and videos into the questions. This allows my students to take these quizzes independently. I personally in the past have used canvas quizzes to assess students letter knowledge. I inserted one picture for each question (rather than text) and use the multiple choice to insert in one letter for each option. For each question, the student had to look at the question picture and then click what letter the picture started with. I also found it very helpful that canvas keeps all the student data from these quizzes within the grade book feature. This allows me to see all students attempts as well as their answers each time. It helps me to know which letters I need to re-teach my students to gain a better understanding.
Pros: Once you have created the quiz that is all you have to do. You need to assign it to the students then canvas does the grading for you!
Cons: Creating the exam/quiz can be tedious. It takes a decent amount of time and you are not unable to undo if you make a mistake.

pros and cons

Google Slides: Google slides are a part of google tools that can help you make PowerPoint slides and presentations. For me google slides in general is very important for my class because I use it for my actual class. Slides helps me organize my lessons and allows me to be able to transition to different slides and links that I need.  Slides is also a great way to make quick quizzes that we can talk through verbally or I can print them out for them. It’s a good way for me to explain certain things to my students that I might not be able to do myself.
Pros: So many different options to create using this tool. You can insert videos, pictures, charts, etc.
Cons: You as the teacher will mostly likely have to talk out the quiz or slides with the students. It can be a little more complicated when being used by Kindergarten.

Google Forms:
Google forms are a tool where you can make quizzes, surveys, questionnaires for businesses. You name it, it’s probably on there. I can use google forms to make a quick quiz for the students to take on their iPads.

Pro: So many options and ways to make documents and quizzes in google forms. You can make multiple choice, short answer, and essay.
Con: This is something I probably would only use with my first graders. Yes, I can include pictures for the questions, but this is a little more complex for my Kindergarteners.

Kahoot!: Kahoot! is an assessment tool that allows teachers to test their student's understandings of the material.  The teacher can either create or find a Kahoot! Quiz, then give it to their students. The students take the quiz as a class going question by question.  Then at the end, the students with the highest scores are displayed and congratulated. I have personally not use this tool with my class, but I think it might be an option for my first graders for sure.
Pro: Students must be engaged, free, easily accessible, easy to create
Con:  Some students don't take it seriously, tries to answer quickly instead of wanting to get it right.
