By June 26, write 2-3 key points that respond to the Unit Organizer self test questions and add one new self-test question that still needs an answer.

All posted evidence

We completed this activity as a group.

Course Organizer question and response:
Why is fidelity of implementation important for student progress and an essential component of multi-tiered service delivery models (i.e., VTSS)?  Fidelity is critical in order to truly measure student progress.  We must constantly ask ourselves "How is SIM working for us?"  Insuring fidelity is achieved by progress monitoring students, progress monitoring the program, frequent observations, frequent review of all data, and continual professional development.

2. Strong leadership, and using SIM tools correctly are key to implementing SIM with fidelity. I have no questions at this time.

Unit Organizer information below along with course organizer question and answer.

Unit Organizer Self-test Questions:
2-3 Key Points
1.  Coaching is the effective strategy to implement SIM along with sustained professional development.
2.  We must collect data to inform instruction and student progress along with monitoring the fidelity of implementation.

Question:
What are two key elements for leadership in the success of SIM?

Course Organizer question and response:
Why is fidelity of implementation important for student progress and an essential component of multi-tiered service delivery models(i.e., VTSS)?  Fidelity is critical in order to truly measure student progress.  We must constantly be asking ourselves "how is SIM working for us?"  Insuring fidelity is achieved by progress monitoring students, progress monitoring the program, frequent observations, frequent review of all data, and continual professional development (coaching and formal).

We completed these questions as a group in class.

1. We sustain the focus of professional learning to increase literacy on both teaching practices and student learning by reflecting daily, weekly, monthly and yearly to determine what methods work best with which student populations.  Understanding that there is a learning curve in any learning - even for teachers - will allow us to make mistakes and learn from them.  Discussions with other like-minded and similarly trained teachers will help sustain focus and motivation.   We also must ask our students to reflect on our methods of teaching and on their methods of learning.

2. First, we must look at data individually and not comparing students to other students or teachers to other teachers.  As I evaluate trends in the classroom, I will look at the outliers, low or high, to see whether their scores reflect shortcomings in my teaching or in their processing/learning.

3. The keys for fidelity of SIM implementation is to ensure only those trained properly teach and record data.  Teachers must also be observed and recommendations made so we can continually improve in implementation.

New Question:
Will these methods work equally well for students with different modalities of learning?

Activities attended.

The SIM approach provides students with the ability to own their own learning through organization and a community approach to education.

I do not have any unanswered questions at this time.
