NP In Action

The Near Pod Cause/Effect served as a refresher before diving into our Cause/Effect Text Structure Unit. It was really easy for the students to understand, they also liked the catchy song.

What could have gone better? I wish that the app didn't have that so many technical issues. There was times where my students screens would be a blank white background. I didn't like the idea that if I accidentally swiped my screen back, it would clear out all of my students answers.

As a review before our phonics pattern reading and writing assessment (similar to a spelling test), I worked with students in small groups to practice identifying the correct spelling of words with our pattern, hearing pattern words and producing the spelling on their own, and writing a sentence when it is dictated to them. Students did all of this in the Nearpod presentation and I was able to easily and quickly review their responses later while helping them with the logistics of using the app right there in real time.

I liked that I was able to record myself reading the words and the dictation sentence and add those recording to the presentation, however that was a tedious process.

Next time I might shorten the presentation and not include all of the words or all of those components to make it more manageable for the kids to do in 15 minutes.

This particular lesson went downhill fast.

I was so excited to see that we could do words with friends edu lessons. so we tired the getting started with words with friends lesson first. Going through the presentations and the rules for words with friends went great. the kids always act a bit supposed that I can run their iPad. at the end of the lesson was a page with a link to sign up for their EDu account for words with friends. The link was weird, signing into words with friends edu. It got a bit crazy. I had to stop. the next day I worked one on one with the kids who were having trouble, not because they didn't understand how to log in it was the words with friend edu site is a bit strange. Everyone got logged in. now we will spend a few days playing words with fiends then I'll try the next nearpod lesson about using affixes

I used this nearpod to introduce Genius Hour to my students. I love the collaboration activities. Students were able to type their passions into the nearpod. It reminded me of padlet!

I used a YouTube video in my nearpod, but students couldn't view it because youtube is blocked. But, it was easy for them to just look on the smartboard so it worked out fine!

Music nearpod on Fugues

https://share.nearpod.com/vsph/m90HYXmANu

Our music teacher wanted a more engaging way to teach about fugues. She sent me a basic powerpoint that contained all the information. I took it and added the information to a Nearpod. I added in activities and slideshows and checks for understanding throughout. It only took me about 30 minutes to transform her powerpoint into a Nearpod...and that's on a subject I had no CLUE about (still questioning what a fugue is...).

State Assement went down and I turned to Nearpod. We did two "Would you Rather" Nearpods! Students had  a lot of fun and were very engaged. I liked that after the question students were instructed to discuss their answer with a partner.
