Middle school students are at a unique age.  They want to be treated as adults, yet they are not quite ready.  Many of them are afraid to take risks with simple tasks such as asking for clarification--as they do not want to stand out in front of their peers, yet they do want positive peer acknowledgement.
I feel strongly that middle school is a time for students to develop self-advocacy, independence, and to begin to monitor their progress in learning and celebrate their success.
Today's middle school students have not known a world without technology, encouraging them through their learning style/mode is important in reaching them in a positive manner.
