- Where is AI being used around the house and work?
AI is all around us. It is used mostly with Siri or Alexa in day to day tasks at home. Workplace uses can include something as basic as google email. The email pays attention to what you are typing and then suggests words ahead of what you are typing in order to suggest appropriate language. Talking to your phone, TV or other devices has become commonplace.
- Describe an example of when you used/witnessed someone else use AI? (Alexa, Siri, etc)
I have used AI throughout my day every day. It is to cut down time doing certain tasks so I can do other things with my time. Time is our most valuable commodity. I have used Alexa, Siri and other chatbots in order to generate content or access information. So many times now I use Google to figure out actors / actresses in a show and then continue to ask questions of it with AI results.
My own children have used Siri and Alexa repeatedly. When my son was younger, he received a device from a family friend of ours and used Alexa on a daily basis. He wanted it to tell him a joke - every day! It started out our morning on a positive note! My daughter used it to play music in the morning of a certain genre or performer. She enjoyed seeing the randomization of what the AI would select.
- How, if at all, has this impacted your life?
As with all technology - it is a blessing and a curse. It is a blessing because it definitely is a time saver, but also accessing information quickly allows you to move on to the next part of your day. I have used it to generate ideas about lessons, assessments, or writing certain pieces for my teaching day. But it can be a curse because if you don't type in exactly the tone, vocabulary level, or specificity for the content, it could take more time than it would if I just wrote it. Also - people check to see if ChatGPT was used for certain emails, etc. and it just destroys your trust and reputation if that is all you rely on.
