Evidence Part 1

Where is AI being used around the house and work?
AI is being used many times throughout the day.  In my home, we have an "alexa" that we can tell to set an alarm for 15 minutes, play our favorite song, show us family pictures, and to set a reminder on our calendars.  I use this technology approximately 5 times a day.  I also use Siri throughout the day at work and when I'm traveling.  I can tell it to call or text anyone and what to send them.  This is the feature I use the most.

Describe an example of when you used/witnessed someone else use AI?
I see people use AI all the time.  My co-worker and I use an AI generated program for educators that creates worksheets, lessons, and even units based on NYS standards.  We don't use this extremely often since we have our own mathematics curriculum, but with the addition on math lab at the middle school level, we have added an extra course we can be more creative with.

How, if at all, has this impacted your life?
This impacts my life immensely on the daily.  I am a full-time working parent that needs every second of the day.  Using AI can allow me more time to do other things with my family.  It has saved me a ton of time in my daily life.

AI at home/work

  • Where is AI being used around the house and work?
AI is used a lot around the house and the workplace. At home, smart devices like Alexa can help with things such as setting reminders, timers, or turning on/off lights. Security cameras, such as Ring, have also become increasingly popular. Ring uses AI to detect unfamiliar faces and provide a text description of camera footage.
  • Describe an example of when you used/witnessed someone else use AI?  (Alexa, Siri, etc)
As an educator, I use AI rather frequently to create practice questions or to generate texts/stories with specific vocabulary in it. It saves me some time, as all I have to do is look it over to make sure that everything makes sense and is correct.
  • How, if at all, has this impacted your life?
I use AI often as a tool to save me time when I have a lot to do. I will think of ideas myself, but then I use AI to facilitate executing that idea. I make sure to check eveything over though, because it is not always accurate or will say something that is kind of strange/ doesn't fit with the rest.

Part 1-Intro

AI has become a big part of everyday life like self-driving cars and voice assistants like Siri and Alexa, Google Translate, Netflix movie recommendations, and Snapchat filters. AI is everywhere whether it's home or workplace related. I see its impact regularly. My kids often use AI tools to help with their homework, and I rely on it for a variety of personal tasks, such as planning travel, discovering new restaurants and bars, finding hotels, and getting recommendations for movies and recipes. These tools have made planning vacations so much easier by offering suggestions that I can filter through.

In teaching, AI has been incredibly valuable. I frequently use sites like Canva, ChatGPT, and SchoolAI to enhance lessons and other tasks. These tools have reduced the time I spend creating lessons, worksheets, labs, and other materials for my science courses. They’ve also helped me refine and personalize communications, such as emails and letters of recommendation, making it more efficient. AI has simplified many tasks.

Part 1

AI shows up in everyday household tools like smart speakers (Alexa, Siri), streaming apps like Netflix that suggest shows, or fitness watches that track health. At work, AI helps filter emails and separate spam and is built into programs like Microsoft Word to save time in writing.

I’ve seen athletes use fitness apps that rely on AI to track workouts and give feedback on speed, heart rate, and recovery. I’ve also used Siri to quickly set timers for cooking or to turn on my music.

AI has made some tasks easier and faster. At work, it helps me clean up emails before I send them or spitball ideas for lesson plans, but I still need to double-check it and apply my own judgment. It saves time, but the real impact comes from how I choose to use the information.

Where is AI being used, house/work? Describe an example of when you witnessed someone else use AI? How has this impacted your life?

Artificial Intelligence is becoming common in both homes and workplaces, showing up in smart assistants like Alexa, Siri, and Google Home, as well as in tools that recommend music, movies, or online shopping items. I’ve seen AI used when someone asked Alexa to set a timer and play music while cooking, it made multitasking easier. Personally, AI has impacted my life by saving time, simplifying daily tasks, and making information more accessible, though it also makes me realize how much I’ve come to rely on technology.

Part 1- Introduction

According to the video, AI is widespread. Some examples of AI being used around the house and work are self-driving cars, Siri or Alexa, speech to text Google Translate, and Snapchat filters. I personally have used speech to text Google Translate in my classroom with my ENL students. It is great because not only can Google Translate do speech to text, but it can also be used for speech to speech. This is great as many of my ELLs can not yet read in their home language, so spoken communication is imperative. AI has helped me build stronger connections with my students, ensure they understand tasks, and give them a way to communicate with me.

A.I. Utilization

Where is AI being used around the house and work?

Devices like Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple Siri help with setting reminders, playing music, controlling smart lights, or answering questions. At work, A.I. is being used for email & communication. I am also utilizing A.I. for lesson creation and producing video, audio, and pictures that I use for with my students to practice their Spanish skills.

Example of AI Use:

Amazon Alexa is one of the first A.I. products I saw people use.  They used it to turn on the lights, read the weather forecast, and activate music by telling Alexa what they wanted to hear.

How has this impacted your life?

Using or witnessing AI has made daily tasks more efficient and convenient. Whether it’s getting reminders from Siri or having Netflix recommend a movie I wouldn’t have discovered myself, AI helps save time and improve decision-making.

Demystifying AI for Educators

Where is AI being used around the house and work?

Todays homes are equipped with smart technology that makes daily life more convenient. Many households now have ring cameras for enhanced security, along with voice-activated assistants like Alexa and Siri that help control lights, play music, and answer questions. Streaming platforms such as Netflix and Spotify personalize entertainment based on user preferences. Robot vacuums clean floors by learning the layout of the home. In the workplace, digital calendars and scheduling tools remind employees to attend meetings and complete tasks. AI writing assistants help improve communication by suggesting edits, correcting grammar, and even generating content, which saves a lot of time for an employee.

Describe an example of when you used/witnessed someone else use AI?  (Alexa, Siri, etc)

I see AI being used on a daily basis. The most interesting use I have witnessed was in April when my brother send me a video from California. He had ordered a self driving car- Waymo. There was no driver. As they entered the vehicle, there was an automated recording of directions on how to navigate the ride. I am not sure I am ready for that kind of AI adventure yet.

How, if at all, has this impacted your life?

Most recently, I purchased a Roomba vacuum. I had a Shark, but it didn't mop floors, it only vacuumed. This new and improved technology saves me a ton of time. Living with a dog and three men, my floors are now considerably cleaner!

Part 1: Introduction

Where is AI being used around the house and work?
AI has taken on a bigger role in our daily life. In life at home we come across AI in smart home devices like - AI assistants like Alexa, the streaming services that we watch our shows from, how we shop online, through security systems on our smart devices. In the workplace I encourage the use of AI to help me save time. Currently I have used AI for the following tasks: grading multiple choice questions, creating lesson plans, re-working existing rubrics,  and locating relevant resources, draft communications, it has also been great when coming up with differentiation options for existing lessons.

Describe an example of when you used/witnessed someone else use AI?  (Alexa, Siri, etc)
The most recent example of this would be how my teen had her graduation party. We had a great turnout, and she received many cards and gifts. That night I reminded her that she needed to write thank you notes to each person that joined us and while she understood the task she was a bit overwhelmed with the amount of thank you notes she needed to write. The following morning she had the stationery out and she was using her phone to assist in writing her notes. I heard "Hey, Siri, help me write a thank you note for a graduation gift of money that I received from my aunt" a few minutes later she was scrolling on her phone and began writing into the card. This process continued for about a half an hour - when I asked how things were going she said she had completed ten cards as she had used Siri to help brainstorm unique ideas for each card.

How, if at all, has this impacted your life?
AI has positively impacted my life as it has allowed me to become more productive. Tasks that would consume hours of my work week have been streamlined basics like lesson planning, locating and generating resources, grading multiple choice questions, drafting communications and quickly differentiating existing lessons. As a parent I have seen my teen use AI to help with reviewing completed research projects for feedback on spelling and grammar. As a parent and teacher I have seen issue with managing the amount of screen time and over-reliance on AI for tasks that would allow our teens to develop stronger critical-thinking and problem solving skills.

Part 2

Where is AI being used around the house and work?
AI is used in many parts of everyday life, often in ways we don’t even notice. Around the house, AI appears in smart home devices like Alexa or Google Home, which respond to voice commands to play music, set timers, or control lights. Streaming services like Netflix or Spotify use AI to suggest movies or songs based on your preferences. At work, especially as a first-grade teacher, AI tools like ChatGPT can help generate lesson ideas, write parent letters, or create engaging classroom activities quickly, helping to save time and offering inspiration when planning.

Describe an example of when you used or witnessed someone else use AI (Alexa, Siri, etc.):

One clear example is when I use Siri while driving. I often ask Siri to send a text, make a call, or get directions, all hands-free, which keeps me safe and focused on the road.

How, if at all, has this impacted your life?

AI has made many tasks faster and more convenient. As a teacher, using tools like ChatGPT has cut down on planning time and allowed me to focus more on working directly with students. At home, AI helps simplify my routine, whether it’s getting reminders from Siri or having Alexa help with timers during cooking. AI has also helped me to reorganize my lifestyle such as planning workouts, organizing meals and generating shopping lists.

Introduction

  • Where is AI being used around the house and work?
I use AI at work, though not on a regular basis. I have used MagicSchool AI to generate quizzes containing Living Environment regents questions. I have used ChatGPT to generate reading comprehension assignments for Living Environment students, as well.

At home, we have Alexa. My kids ask Alexa for shark jokes, to call friends, and to add things to our Amazon shopping cart.
  • Describe an example of when you used/witnessed someone else use AI?  (Alexa, Siri, etc)
I recently used ChatGPT to generate a short paragraph explaining ecological succession and 10 regents level questions, including both multiple choice and short answer questions for students preparing for the Living Environment regents exam.
  • How, if at all, has this impacted your life?
Honestly, AI can make things like generating reading comprehension assignments, quizzes, and vocabulary lists a lot easier. When used the "right" way, AI can be extremely helpful, though sometimes Gemini gives the wrong answers to science questions.

Part 1

I used AI consistently at home and at work. We have weekly poems in kindergarten and I want them to be based on our theme, have sight words we are working on, and make sense so I use ChatGPT. It takes the stress and silliness off of coming up with a poem. At home, I deal with allergies so ChatGPT makes my meal plans and my grocery lists. It has been overwhelming to navigate it sometimes, so this helps take some of the stress off that. I have a robot vacuum that goes everyday at the same time while I am work so it is done when I get back home. It is a saver for the pet hair. It has taken some of the time consuming or stressful things and helped me get them done in matter of minutes.
