App evaluation reflection

I liked the thinking process that the guidelines promoted when considering apps to review. Considering the different educational values and variables in the app made for a more detailed and thought out review with real classroom applications. Because the use of technology should have purpose in the classroom aside rom the novelty of technology, it is important to evaluate the different technological resources that are being used. I can use the skills and terminology learned in this process to evaluate the benefits of different resources for my future classrooms so that I can effectively implement technology in my classroom.

First of all, being able to record this app review was a skill that I foresee being extremely useful in the future. I know know how to use Quicktime now and upload to YouTube. If I needed to record a math lesson for instance, I could record it and upload it on YouTube for students and parents to review at home. I personally had a teacher who did this and it was a life saver. Secondly, I really enjoy using Notability. It has been wonderful for college note taking. I could see myself doing more of these videos in the future after I have learned how to better do them. Overall, a great assignment because I learned some very helpful skills.

This is very relevant to my future classroom. I could use this application as part of a station or in one on one tutoring. I have used it as a reward while I was tutoring a little girl who was in third grade. She loved this application and asked her mom if she could download it on her iPad at home! It has some really awesome, educational games as part of the application itself.

I really enjoy using this app and I have seen it work well in a tutoring session so I really trust that it can work in the classroom for other students! Overall, it is a great app that challenges students but also helps them practice what they already know. I think it brings different features and levels so if some students perform higher they can go up a level or even up a grade, so it doesn't really limit them in that way. It is appealing to the eyes and there are fun noises that can definitely keep younger kids involved. I would love using this at a math station for my students to work on something specifically they might need to work on.

Knowing how to evaluate an app can you very useful as future teacher. Being able to tell if an app or website is appropriate and knowing how to use all the tools is important for a teacher to do so they can make sure it is right for what they are wanting to use it for. This is also helpful so that you can teach your students how to use the app without any confusion. Youtube Kids was a really fun app to explore and I definitely plan on using it in my future classroom.

Reflection: iBiome Ocean App Review

In completing this assignment, I had to critically examine an app for its educational content, ease of use, developmental appropriateness, and general engagement level for students.  Exploring the iBiome Ocean app and how it accomplished the creation of a successful learning tool was important for me as I prepare to become a teacher.  As a technology-supportive teacher, I'm sure that I will use many apps in my classroom as a means of supplementing and supporting classroom learning; this badge helped me to practice assessing apps from the viewpoint of a teacher to make sure it provided both valuable content and an appropriate means of delivery for my hypothetical students.  I also felt that this badge taught me the importance of lending and accepting constructive criticism on my instructional design.  There is always room for improvement or adaptation to original content (if allowed by licensing) to better meet the needs of learners.

Reviewing an app is a useful skill. Maybe not the video part, but knowing the criteria for a good app is definitely useful. i didn't really think of what made an app good or bad before, not really paying attention if there were inappropriate ads or access to a community. In the future, I will need to choose app according to these conditions.Rather than just if it is useful, I need to think about the safety of the students.

I could definitely see myself using Padlet or apps like it in my classroom. I think that this app is not only a great way for students to create their own designs and share them with others, but it's also a good tool for educators as well. I love that teachers can create a discussion board using Padlet and that students can submit pictures, recordings, videos, or links along with their comments. I think that secondary students would love using this app because it is so customizable!

This App was a challenge to execute.

i had such difficulty in the beginning getting the audio to cooperate. I had nasty feedback and the guys working in the computer lab had to help me out. Then I had to decide what app to do, what to say, what to look at...a nightmare. I do however, think that this was helpful because I could use this kind of feature to do tutorial videos for creating projects or a legit app review for my students to know how to use an app without me having to explain it 28 times.

The app that I reviewed is so awesome. I can see myself using it in many different mathematics content areas for many different assessment levels. I was surprised to see that it is free since the desk top version is not free, so that was an exciting aspect as a preservice teacher! This app has a lot to offer and it seems to never run out of possibilities. Since you can download and make as many different lessons and cool things as you want, this app is a gem!

Summary

To finish this badge, I have explored many educational apps. I found there are so many apps with different functions we can use with our students and even parents. Technology really makes teaching easier. Most importantly, technology allows students to be more creative. They can bring more materials in different versions into their works. It is fun! I believe this is very motivated as well.

This was an interesting assignment. I think it is great to know how to do an app review, or just to know how to connect an iPad to a Mac. This knowledge could be useful in the classroom (or out of it) to create informational and fun videos for the students. The StoryMaker app, would be great for my classroom because the app allows students to personalize content and to learn by having the student engage in material that they have chosen themselves. Reviewing this app, helped teach me that even apps have standards that teachers should consider when using technology in the classroom.
