I taught the LINCing Routine to my co-teaching partner

I coached my co-teaching partner through the use of the Vocabulary LINCing Routine. We have incorporated the routine into lessons throughout the semester; she has observed and participated in the steps with our students as I led them through the LINCing steps. We both feel this routine is very beneficial for our students for learning some of the unique terms they need to know in World Geography.

Coaching an educator through the routine.

Today I partnered with a teacher to instruct them in the Vocabulary Lincing routine (see video).  The teacher is familiar with other routines and was eager to learn this one.  I used her students while practicing implementing the routine myself.  Her students reported how much they enjoyed the routine and their scores on their vocabulary quizzes have improved.  We began by reviewing the book in detail.  We talked about the research that the routine is based on and looked at the results for SLD and NLD.  We looked through the table, steps, cue-do -review sequence and an example.  We also discussed the get ready, get set, go and win section.  After reviewing the example in the book I shared with her the draft I developed when working with a group of her students.  Then we reviewed her students work on those words.  Next we developed a draft Lincs table for her to teach.  We reviewed the book to learn the criteria for what words to select.  We selected four vocabulary words.  We fleshed out one of them and she will finish the draft for the other three words.  Next I had her turn over  her paper and modeled how to conduct the self-test forward and backwards.   We finished by answering some questions on the debrief page.  All throughout the session she asked wonderful questions.  I directed her to the book so she would know she had the answers when implementing alone and to review the book.  I'm eager to see her completed draft and how the lesson goes.

During a Professional Learning event, I had the opportunity to train a colleague to use the LINCing Routine.

During the first week of June, I had the opportunity to work with a school division to facilitate Professional Learning opportunities.  It was during the Disability Awareness training that I had the opportunity to train a fellow colleague with the implementation of the LINCing Routine to introduce the different disability categories.
