6. Data Driven Planning

At Washington Middle School, our teachers have identified what is essential in each core content taught. Once the essentials are determined, Course and Unit Organizers were created. Teachers give formative assessments over each section on the Unit Organizers and determine when and what interventions need to take place.
Teachers then use appropriate CE routines (Vocabulary LINCing, Framing Routine, Concept Comparison Routine, etc.) to deliver interventions when needed. Students are re-assessed, and when appropriate move on to the next content being taught.
The Strategic Instruction Model has been extremely central to our response to intervention program at Washington Middle School. We are looking at moving to an 8 period day to have an entire class period to work on interventions using our CE Routines to both determine where students are, and how to move them forward.
