Digital badging is a way to learn digital skills in small chunks called micro-credentials. They are designed so that badge earners can learn at their own pace, time, & place until they have mastered a specific digital skill. It is an alternative to attending in-person events and badge earners are part of a community so that learners can have access to others that have earned the badge and can seek help if needed. The badge, once earned, also serves as evidence that the holder is proficient in that skill.
