Responsible decision making involves making choices that are helpful to yourself and others. In Kindergarten, we address this through our health curriculum, discussing healthy relationships and healthy habits. We start at the individual level. Through read alouds and the Positivity Project daily lessons we discuss how we are responsible for our own behaviors. As students are able to understand this, we begin to focus on how our choices impact those around us. Some of the instruction is individualized (especially if it involves disruptive behaviors) but most is done full group since all students are learning and honing these skills at this age due to their developmental maturation. As with the other skills, modeling and reinforcement of positive examples are integral parts to teaching these skills to young students.
