Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) helps students do well in school and in life. It teaches them how to handle emotions, set goals, and get along with others. Some key thoughts are:
  • Self-awareness – Understanding your own feelings
  • Self-management – Controlling emotions and behaviors
  • Social awareness – Understanding and respecting others
  • Relationship skills – Making and keeping good friendships
  • Responsible decision-making – Making smart, kind choices
SEL should be part of everyday learning because it helps students grow emotionally and do better in school. Adults need to set a good example by showing kids how to handle feelings, build strong relationships, and make good decisions. Learning SEL now is an investment in the future. It helps students succeed and prevents problems like stress and behavior issues. I plan on looking at the resource Our Children are Leaders, SEL awareness for parents and caregivers.
