1.  “Social and emotional skills help improve lifetime outcomes.”  Knowing how to deal with difficulties that come up throughout a lifetime is an important skill to develop in students.  2.  SEL can be focused on several areas depending on what is deemed necessary within the school district (Academics, College/Career Readiness, Mental Health, Civic Learning).  I think New Hartford is primarily focused on SEL as a tool to help improve the mental health of our students.  3.  The CASLE wheel helps show how the competencies are interrelated and how they affect one another.  4.  “The key settings - coordinating policies and practices that students experience both inside and outside of the classroom.”  These settings are classrooms, schools, families, and communities.  These settings provide various ways to help teach SEL to our students/children.  5.  There are many different ways to enact SEL within the classroom, school district, and community.
I will use the school workshop series resource.  I would love to gain more ideas on how to use SEL in the classroom.
